On Sept. 24th, Ava had the honor of seeing Czech President Petr Pavel when he visited the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at Kimball Recital Hall. During his visit, Ava listened to his remarks on Nebraska's importance in maintaining friendship between the U.S. and the Czech Republic. During the question-and-answer portion of the visit, President Pavel talked about various topics, including study abroad and Czech Republic relations, NATO's role in Europe, and the Czech Republic's support for Ukraine. When wrapping up the question-and-answer portion, the University and Komensky Club gifted President Pavel with a replica of the Komensky Club's historical plaque, a Husker jersey with his name on the back, and a Komensky Club shirt. Among the crowd of 450 people, Ava had a great time getting to visit with the Czech-Slovak National Court. After we listened to President Pavel's remarks, Ava and the national court were able to participate in interviews and take photos.

Last weekend, I attended Prague Czech Heritage Day as part of B**r Barrel Days in Prague NE. It was such a lovely day minus the rain. Some highlights from the day were watching the crowing of new Prague royalty and newly crowned Prague Czech Queen, Lauren Sousek! I wanna give a special shoutout to the previous queen, Christina Kavan. It has been an absolute honor getting to meet, compete against, and travel with her over these past 3 years. I want to wish her the best of luck in her future. I was also able to compete along side of Christina in the Bohunk Baggers corn hole tournament. We had such an incredible time, meeting new people, playing in Kroj, and getting to tell them about being a Czech Queen. Attending parades is always fun but this one came with a little surprise of rain. Lastly as always, I had an absolute blast listening to Angie Kriz and the PolkaToons till midnight!

This past weekend I had the great joy of attending Wilber’s Annual 65th Czech Days. It it was a fun-filled two days! On both Saturday and Sunday I was invited to the queens reception where I visited with the national pageant Queen contestants, local Nebraska queens and other visiting royalty members. After the lovely hospitality I participated in the parade. After the parade we were able to explore the town of Wilber looking at vendors, shops around town, and visiting the Czech Cultural Center where we took away some fun goodies from the silent auction. Later both evenings we attended the pageant. It was so exciting seeing each of the girls competing as I have gotten close with a few of them over the past year. Huge congratulations to each of the girls as they did an amazing job representing our Czech heritage but even bigger congratulations to the new royal court! Lina, it has been an honor to get to travel different places and visit with you and share experiences. You have done such a wonderful job representing the state of Nebraska and I am so excited to see what you accomplish as Miss Czech Slovak US! On Sunday before the pageant we enjoyed listening to Angie and the Polka Toons in the Wilber hotel b**r garden. It is always a great time listening to her play. My older sister and I also got to take home another victory at the polka contest! Wilber was such a fun festival to attend and I look forward to it every year!

June and July Update from Clarkson Czech Queen Ava Baumert.

Since winning my new title in June I have attended numerous events representing both Clarkson and Nebraska. On July 4th I attended Seward’s 4th of July festival. Some highlights included meeting Governor Kaye Orr at the reception dinner and riding through the parade on my grandpa’s corvette. On July 19th I attended Dwight’s Czech Festival. I got to see many familiar faces and attended the parade. Congratulations to Kristen Coufal for being crowned Dwight Czech Queen and Vivienne Matulka, Dwight Czech Princess. On July 21st the Clarkson Opera House hosted a tour group from Omaha to learn the history of Clarkson and I got the great honor of attending. I was able to visit with a few of the people who traveled and showcase my talent, Kroj modeling, and dance with the children Beseda dancers. This past weekend I rode tripped to Wilson Kanas. I got to enjoy looking for the eggs and riding through a very warm parade. I got the pleasure of getting to ride with Prague Czech Queen Christina Kavan. Later in the afternoon I attended the Kanas pageant where they crowned Jessica Wonderlich as Kanas Czech Queen 2026-2027. After the pageant I got to visit with some familiar queens. June and July have been a busy few months and I’m excited to attend Wilber next week for the National Pageant!
