Chris Johnson’s family brought a memorial bench to Clarksdale and placed it at .

When show at Red’s in Clarksdale was announced, my thoughts went immediately to Chris and how much he would have enjoyed the gathering of so many of his favorite musicians in the town he loved.

I met the amazing by chance and a plan was hatched to bring the bench to the show.

Chris had a great view of the stage, lots of visitors and was the last to leave the party. 🎸

It was an amazing night with too many folks from the Deep Blues family to tag y’all.

I continue to take a hiatus from producing Deep Blues Festival in Clarksdale but perhaps again someday.

I’m taking advantage of this break to finally make it to this year and I’m looking forward to connecting with DBF friends in Germany. 🌳

Thinking of Chris Johnson after hearing that The Black Keys are playing the iconic Red’s Blues Club in Visit Clarksdale. 🎸 ❤️

REDS ALERT 🚨 No other place we’d rather be on the eve of this album release than Clarksdale, Mississippi, the home of the blues.

The musicians are what it’s all about and this year’s lineup was amazing. I almost got a pic of everyone somewhere over the weekend. Thanks to all the bands for making the trek to Clarksdale!

Deep Blues Fest Team 2024. 🤩
I am so grateful to all these folks (and a few more that I missed getting in a pic) for helping me open New Roxy for Deep Blues Festival.
It’s already been 3 months since the festival and I’m still wrapping up details, but finally am ready to tackle some social media posts.

Since 2016 when Chris Johnson passed on the reins of the festival to the The Shack Up Inn and New Roxy it has been held the weekend following King Biscuit Festival making Deep Blues Festival weekend October 16th -19th, 2025.

That being said, I need to share that I am taking a hiatus from producing the festival this year.

After 9 years coordinating the event I need a break from the year round commitment that comes with planning and financially supporting the festival.

For the hardcore DBF fans, keep those dates on the calendar and we’ll see how the year flows.
There’s always music in Clarksdale, the weather in October is lovely,
and I will remain hopeful a Deep Blues party of some kind pulls together that weekend.
