Who was Son House?

"Born in the Clarksdale area in 1903, Son House was a Delta blues legend whose influence still shapes music today. He mentored icons like Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, and his sound can be heard in artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Jack White, and Taj Mahal.

After stepping away from music in the 1940s, Son House was rediscovered in 1964, leading to a powerful late-career revival."

We're so proud he's among the legends who were born and influenced here -- and love how this new festival is honoring him. Kudos to Dr. B, Kayleigh, and the whole Blue Room & Son House team! 💙

We had so much fun tonight!!

Thanks to everyone who came out, and to all our wonderful musicians who were kind enough to share their talents and their stories with us.

We hope to see everyone back tomorrow for another great afternoon, and hopefully some new faces, too!

After months of planning, dreaming, late nights, posters, phone calls, music, and Mississippi soul… the Son House Tribute Festival officially kicks off TODAY in Clarksdale.

For the next three nights, we’re bringing together incredible artists, legendary venues, and blues lovers from all over to celebrate the life, music, and legacy of Son House right here where the blues still lives and breathes.

Night One begins tonight at The Blue Room with an unforgettable lineup featuring Kwan Kash, Dr. B, Ray Cashman, Chris Mullins, Bear Ryan, and Lucious.

Expect raw blues, deep roots, good people, and that unmistakable Delta magic.

Whether you’re coming for one night or all three — thank you for being part of this with us. Let’s make this a weekend to remember.

A night out in Clarksdale just hits different. 🎶

Maybe it starts with dinner at Stone Pony, followed by flipping through blues records at Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Arts, then catching live music at Hambone Art Gallery or stopping by The Blue Room on a Saturday night for open mic and Delta blues vibes. Maybe the night ends at Ground Zero Blues Club with music still pouring out into the streets.

That’s part of what makes the Son House Tribute Festival so special — it’s more than just a lineup. It’s a weekend built around the music, the culture, and the spirit of Clarksdale itself.

There are some artists you listen to—and then there are artists you feel. Son House was one of those rare voices.

Born and shaped by the Mississippi Delta, his music carried a weight that came from real life—struggle, faith, redemption, and everything in between. With his powerful voice and signature slide guitar, he helped define what Delta blues truly is, influencing icons like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.

His sound didn’t just shape a genre—it helped shape the soul of American music. And even now, nearly a century later, that influence can still be heard and felt.
