The James Julius Guy Award is presented each year at the Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the community and Gospel music. This year, the honor goes to Ms. Josephine Rhymes.
A true champion of Clarksdale, Ms. Rhymes continues to use her voice and platform to unite and uplift the community. In November 2024, she organized a special Pre-Thanksgiving Service that brought together faith communities across the city. The event featured local Gospel talent and inspiring messages from area pastors, offering hope and promoting unity.
For the past four years, Ms. Rhymes has transformed Clarksdale into a Winter Wonderland through the annual Clarksdale Christmas Festival. The month-long celebration supports local businesses, showcases local Gospel and Blues talent, and spreads holiday cheer to everyone from children to senior citizens.
The City of Clarksdale proudly congratulates Ms. Josephine Rhymes on receiving this prestigious award.
