From Clove to Bulb

With nine long months from clove to bulb, Galena Garlic Company knew that garlic was a crop that was meant to be celebrated and held their first garlic festival in Galena, IL in 2004. The festivals continued for two more years and then the company decided to shift their focus to the growth of their brick and mortar stores.

Seven years and four stores later the owner of Galena Garlic, Laszlo Marton, was still looking for the perfect spot to bring his festival back to Jo Daviess County. Then in 2014 during a roadside sweet corn stop Laszlo met Michael Dittmar, the Village President of Elizabeth, IL. After a warm welcome from the community, Laszlo decided to bring back the garlic festival with a renewed focus. Bringing in additional farms with Midwest grown garlic, local produce and food vendors, and culinary and musical entertainment, we were excited to celebrate our favorite ingredient once again. With the help of Team Garlic and support from the town, the first Midwest Garlic Fest was held in 2015 at Terrapin Park in Elizabeth, IL. Growing every year since, our 5th Annual Midwest Garlic Fest will be hosted by Galena Garlic Company on August 10th and 11th, 2019. The Marton’s and their extended garlic family welcome you to come eat, shop, dance, and enjoy this year's festival.
