Meir and Tova live a disappointing middle-class life until Itsik moves into their building. The couple is fascinated by the open-minded bachelor, who doesn’t succumb to social expectations. Meir alters his appearance in an attempt to transform himself, while Tova tries to turn Itsik into their best friend. In a uranium mining area of India, a tribal couple cope with the loss of their daughter. For them, the land and forest are witness to their daughter’s memory. The film explores the deeply intertwined connections between tribal communities and the forest that is their traditional home. Tortoise Under the Earth is a poetic elegy to a world that is rapidly disappearing, subsumed by unchecked development and displacement.

Sudden devastating news prompts them to return to South Korea, with hopes of reconnecting to their roots and reconciling their tragic past.
