The Miami & Erie Canal, as seen from Race Street, was the northern border of Cincinnati's downtown in the early 20th century. The canal was drained in 1920 after significant damage from the 1913 flood.

A Nostalgic Timeline of a Cincinnati Landmark📍❤️

1837
A prized lot on West Ninth Street is purchased for $4,000, described as “one of the most handsomest in the city.” Cincinnati is growing, full of optimism and opportunity.

Late 1830s
The original church is built for $8,000 as industry and innovation take root nearby - including the earliest days of Procter & Gamble.

1859–1860
As the community grows, the church is rebuilt into a grand Gothic structure for $30,000. The cornerstone is laid on December 17, 1859, and the new 14,000-square-foot church opens its doors on September 9, 1860 just 7 months before the Civil War.

1866–1869
The church becomes a center for progress and compassion for Cincinnati and the Nation, housing the Freedmen’s Aid Society and later the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society, supporting education and opportunity during a changing America. More history to come soon...

A backdrop unlike any other 🎨✨

Our custom-painted mural spans the entire back wall of The Royce—and its story is just as remarkable as its scale. Painted by Shahzia Sikander, the New York City–based artist known internationally for her intricate, layered works, the mural was created in partnership with the Cincinnati Art Museum and the ArtWorks Youth Program. Even Aftab Pureval, Mayor of Cincinnati, attended the dedication.

It’s bold. Architectural. Culturally significant. And it will be an incredible setting for wedding portraits.

This layout in The Upper Gallery is set for 250 guests, with tables thoughtfully preset along the perimeter walls allowing for a stunning, centered ceremony beneath soaring ceilings and glowing stained glass.

This breathtaking mural, created for NINTH - an event collective by internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander, in collaboration with the Cincinnati Art Museum and ArtWorks Cincinnati, is nearly complete! To overcome the challenge of painting the upper section of the church, which was inaccessible by traditional scaffolding, our emerging artists devised a creative solution. They painted on parachute fabric and used a special adhesive to affix it to the side of the building, resulting in this stunning work of art. Be sure to catch the full unveiling this October!
