🔎 Member Spotlight: Lakehead Constructors, Inc. 🔎

The Iron Mining Association of Minnesota is proud to feature one of our founding members—Lakehead Constructors—and the vital role they play in keeping iron mining operations running across northern Minnesota.

An IMA member since 1992, Lakehead Constructors is an industrial general contractor specializing in large-workforce maintenance outages and complex industrial builds.

As a union contractor, they self-perform work across 12 trades, providing maintenance support at area taconite plants and delivering major modernization projects across the Iron Range. Their core values of Safety, Quality, Service, and Innovation guide everything they do.

The iron mining industry is central to Lakehead's operations, from work inside taconite plants to railroad crews transporting ore to Duluth and Two Harbors. Over 35 years, they've grown right alongside the industry they help keep running.

A few weeks ago, IMA members attended the SME Conference, connecting with mining professionals, students, and educators from across the region.

A highlight was the IMA-sponsored Student Breakfast, where IMA executive director Kristen Vake was joined by U.S. Steel representatives Lukas Klemke and Chrissy Bartovich, as well as board member Matt Witzel from Ziegler for these conversations.

Events like this are a great reminder of why investing in the next generation matters. We’re already looking forward to next year!
