Constellation is proud to partner with the to present ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐'๐จ ๐พ๐๐๐๐๐๐ค ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ live at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Friday, May 1st.
Constellation founder and drummer-composer Mike Reed () presents The Magic Box: Music Inspired by Fred Hopkins, a tribute to the Chicago bassist and AACM member. Featuring new works, including a commission by Henry Threadgill, the performance highlights Hopkinsโ influence through a powerhouse ensemble of fellow Chicago improvisers: cellist Tomeka Reid (), flutist Nicole Mitchell (), saxophonist Greg Ward (), vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz, and bassist Joshua Abrams ().
Opening the evening, saxophonist Geof Bradfield () joins students from the Jazz Institute of Chicagoโs Jazz Links Program () for The City Was Yellow: Chicago Jazz & Improvised Music 1980โ2010. This program draws from Reedโs collection of compositions written during a transformative era in Chicagoโs jazz history. One defined by experimentation and a spirit of creative risk that continues to resonate today.
