✨ XVIII FESTIVAL POESÍA EN ABRIL - RESISTENCIAS: fue una gran edición. Nos encantó poder encontrarnos y disfrutar de poesía en español juntes como comunidad.

Un sincero agradecimiento a todas, todos y todes les poetas, artista plástico y músicos participantes, coordinadores, voluntarios que hicieron posible la realización de este festival, a los espacios que nos abrieron las puertas de sus recintos y a todxs les que nos acompañaron durante esta celebración de poesía.

La edición 2026 de Poesía en Abril, bajo el tema “Resistencias”, nos invita a mirar de frente las tensiones de nuestro tiempo y a reconocer las diversas maneras en que las comunidades de todo el mundo sostienen, defienden y reinventan la vida frente al fascismo, el racismo, el machismo, el clasismo, la discriminación y la opresión generada por las guerras.

¡Felicitaciones a Raul Zurita, nuestro querido poeta homenajeado en Poesía en Abril 2016, por el muy merecido reconocimiento por su extraordinaria trayectoria poética!

✨ We’re delighted to announce Raúl Zurita as the 2026 Lifetime Recognition Award recipient. ✨

✨ Raúl Zurita will participate in the 2026 Griffin Poetry Prize Readings with his translator, Anna Deeny Morales (). Their reading will be part of a live performance by internationally acclaimed Armenian-Canadian pianist/composer Eve Egoyan (.egoyan), with filmmakers Lior Shamriz () and Chloé Griffin paying homage to Zurita’s poetry throughout.

✨ Zurita is one of Latin America´s most celebrated poets. He was completing his studies in civil engineering when, on the morning of the military coup, September 11, 1973, he was arrested and tortured. During the dictatorship (1973–1990), he published a trilogy of books (𝙋𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮, 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙚, and 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚) and, in 1979, co-founded the radical artistic collective C.A.D.A. carrying out provocative public art performances as acts of political dissent.

✨ A verse from his book 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 (1985) is inscribed in the Memorial of the Detained, Disappeared and the Politically Executed at the General Cemetery, in Santiago, Chile. In addition to his more than twenty books of poetry, essays, and criticism, he is also known for the written “poesía acción” (poetry action) in 1982, when five airplanes wrote the fifteen verses of his poem “La vida nueva” (𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚) over New York City, visible from many parts of the city.
