THIRD YEAR with ELPIS! The MetDown presents “Back to Our Roots”.

Versatile in style, mixed in race, and representing all genders, the MetDown, a pandemic born dance collective, wants to bring our House and hip-hop dance styles to the Movement Matters Perfomance Series. We’re a young group that loves doing all the styles of hip hop; social, house, breakin, lockin, wacking… We want the chance to showcase our vibrant spirit and love of dance to a larger audience.

The MetDown’s ultimate goal is to celebrate the raw and organic nature of Hip Hop, and, at the same time, create a visual testimony to its artistry, athleticism, and musicality equal to any other form of dance.

THIRD YEAR with ELPIS! Kweku Bransah presents his work "Joy Unspeakable".

Kweku Bransah is a self-taught Hip Hop dancer who graduated from The University of Akron in 2017 with a BA in Dance. While at Akron, he learned Ballet and Modern dances. Having learned these mixtures of styles is what led him to Chicago to dance with Chicago Dance Crash in their 2017-2018 season, a fusion dance company of Hip Hop, contemporary, and acrobatics. Kweku is currently freelancing, taking gigs as they come.

Kweku has also toured solo around the US Midwest and East Coast with the Pas de Monkey Dance Project called "The Art of Making Dances, (Not About Ferguson)" which is a response to the Black Lives Matter movement and to the violence against African American men in 2016. It asks: What can artists do to respond to violence and injustice? How can participating in art be a meaningful activity in a world in which black men are being shot in the streets?
