🗣️APRIL 25TH! Kindred Civic Arts Forum (KCAF) is proud to partner with One Earth Film Festival to present a screening of 40 Acres, followed by a guided community panel and discussion.

In a post-apocalyptic world shaped by food scarcity, 40 Acres follows a Black family of Canadian farmers — descendants of American Civil War migrants — as they defend their land and livelihood against outside threats. At its core, this thriller explores land stewardship, survival, generational resilience, and what it means to protect community in times of crisis.

While the film exists in a speculative future, the themes are deeply present: rising food costs, food deserts, land ownership, safety, and the urgent need for collective care.

Growth takes intention. Growth takes tending. Growth takes time.

This April, Just(Us) Dinner invites you into an evening of planting — both in soil and in spirit.

During ‘Rooted’, each guest will receive a seed to plant and take home. As our hands press into soil, we’ll share stories about growth:
What has helped us grow?
What tried to uproot us?
What does tending to ourselves and our communities truly require?

Planting is never passive. It is an act of belief. A declaration that something is worth nurturing.

Over a shared meal from Inspiration Kitchen, we’ll reflect on the parallels between gardens and our lives — the patience, the setbacks, the unseen work beneath the surface, and the quiet miracles that come from consistent care.

Because what we water, grows.
Seats are limited. Join us at the table.

Note: There is a $15 deposit for your reservation that is returned upon your participation in the event!

This past Just(Us) Dinner was a gathering of collective strength!

Sheran Keyton guided us through anthems that have lifted voices of generations gathering, protesting, and healing in community.

Through song and shared reflection over dinner, we considered how music played and still impacts our fight for liberation today.

Thank you all for coming out! We hope to see you at the next Just(Us) Dinner April 15th, and The Salt Circle April 12th! Links in bio)

Let’s recap! Sunday was a much needed pause in the hustle + bustle of the week. Thank you to everyone who came out to .blkroom , whether from just around the corner, or all the way from Lockport, to be present in this safe space together.

led us through a nourishing yin yoga flow while playing the sound bowls, and offered her favorite quotes from ‘Rest Is Resistance’ by for us to meditate on in flow. We followed up with a reintroduction to ‘s ‘Black Liturgies’ by taking turns reading relevant text from the chapter ‘Rest’ for us to reflect and journal on, then closed with a self-grounding exercise we can take with us anywhere. I hope you all spent some time outside after, enjoying that stunning weather we had!
