Hello! Been a while since we've posted. We had originally planned to do a convention this summer, but it looks like this is not gonna be the best time.
The plan at this point is to see how this COVID stuff pans out. If the apocalypse doesn't happen, maybe we can do a FANcon in spring of 2021. It would take place in upstate NY, which right now is a hot zone, but hopefully everything will be back to normal far before then.
I'm thinking about this now because we would use the next 12ish months to do writing challenges and voting polls like we did way back in our first couple of conventions. This will also give us plenty of time to plan out how we will go about the gathering.
Once upon a time we would rent out a really cool spot called The Met in Roanoke, VA. Even if we were still there, the place has since closed and it wouldn't be a possibility this go-around. There is a quaint little Radisson here in Corning, NY that would do nicely for a group. We would need to have ten or more attending people to justify renting an event room.
Back in 2011 we had an amazing turnout and a brilliant time together--which sounds like insanity since the majority of us are introverts that prefer our screens and keyboards over face-to-face contact. It really was a lot of fun though, and I think it was due to the fact that we all had the same mindset. We all understood each other's boundaries and were able to enjoy each other!
My questions for everyone who might still be listening is, would you want us to reproduce this type of convention for 2021, or would you prefer a more intimate setting? Honestly, in our opinion, it feels a little more intimidating to have a smaller group because then people start noticing if you're not talking! lol
Our hope is to do a fun event in an event room with possible karaoke, food, fun, awards ceremonies and a live auction. If we can find another awesome trophy shop, I'd like to get our stars made up again this time because they're just so cool and fun!
Let us know if you would definitely be interested in attending in spring of 2021. The more people, the less fiscal contribution we would need to ask for to cover costs, so convince your friends! Please share this post or tag anyone you think might want to participate. You don't have to be an author to join us, and we will only be using our online screen-names unless otherwise requested by the individual.
Thanks!
