A misty mosty morning is not something we experience very often in Southern California. All the more reason to go out and enjoy the damp atmosphere.
This is the last weekend this year when entrance to the Lavender Festival is free. So if it is shopping that takes your interest, perhaps this is the time to do it.
A tent full of lavender-inspired products, soaps, sachets, essential oils, olive oil . . . , are waiting to entice you with their enchanting fragrance. It’s never too early to start looking for gifts for the festive season. There are also a variety of plants on sale, lavender and otherwise, and right next door, the Master Gardeners will be only too willing to offer some helpful advice in looking after them.
A new feature of the festival this year is Oak Mercantile. Housed in what is affectionately referred to as the Big House, a display of products on a wooden theme is to be found. Many of the products have been hand-crafted from wood found on our property. Also on display are some pieces that were considered too beautiful in their natural state to be touched by man’s efforts.
So we hope to see you this weekend, but be sure to come prepared with your warm winter woollies and wet-weather wellies.

Every year, we are left wondering if this could really be Cherry Valley, California, and not some farm in the Provence Region of France.
Our main fields are not in bloom yet, but we have planted some early blooming lavender behind the Blacksmith’s Building, and this variety is rather aptly called “French Fields.” These photographs were taken this morning, and it looks like the plants will be seen in their full glory for the Memorial Day weekend.
Be sure to seek out this enchanting corner of our property when you come. Run your fingers through the blooms, and maybe squeeze a few of them and let the pleasing aroma caress your hand before you bring it to your nostrils.
But please do not pick these flowers; their task is to herald the coming of the lavender season.

Quirky and not exuding the most pleasant of fragrances, nonetheless, Spanish lavender (Lavandula stoechas) cannot be faulted when it comes to eagerness. A.k.a. French lavender, Italian lavender, or butterfly lavender, it is the first in the season to bloom, and it gives color to an otherwise green monochrome landscape until more varieties of lavendula are ready to clothe themselves in their full array.
Even now, the whites, purples, and pale greens of the Spanish lavender with its unique butterfly-topped blooms can be viewed in our sample garden, so be sure to seek them out when you visit.

Reasons #7 - #10

#7) The retail section under the “wedding tent” is where you will also find our 123 Farm Korean peppers, for those who prefer not to go out in the sun to pick their own. Korean peppers have a delicious spiciness flavor that is nowhere near as lethal as the Ghost and Carolina Reaper varieties.

#8) Also under the “wedding tent” you will be able to learn what happens to the modest Korean pepper as it travels from the field to the kimchi jar.

#9) There will be a free outdoor demonstration of how to make the typical and healthy Korean dish called “bibimbap,” an opportunity to taste the finished product, and a free recipe so that you can go home and try it yourself. On Saturday and Sunday only at 3pm.

#10) Our roasted Korean peppers (seasoned with soy sauce, lime and tahini) will be on sale for $1 for five.
