🧵✨ Stitched with Story: The Legacy of Gullah Quilting
📍 Quilt by Vermelle “Bunny” Smith Rodrigues, seen here on display at the Gullah Museum of Georgetown.

Vermelle “Bunny” Rodrigues does more than create quilts. She carries stories.
A Gullah artist, educator, and cultural historian, Bunny is known for her vibrant story quilts that reflect the life, memory, and traditions of the Gullah Geechee community. Through color, pattern, and careful stitching, her work becomes a visual record of culture passed from one generation to the next.

🧶 Her quilts often center everyday moments. Family gatherings. Church scenes. Community life. Each piece holds meaning, offering a way to see and remember the experiences that shape Gullah identity.
Her work has been shared in galleries and cultural spaces around the world, extending the reach of Gullah storytelling far beyond the Lowcountry.

💛 With every stitch, there is intention. With every quilt, a story is carried forward.
✨ If you want to stay connected to the artists, traditions, and moments that continue to shape the Gullah Celebration, we invite you to join us.
