I’m super excited to open the night for Amen SoundLab this Friday at the .ballroom 🤩

I’ll be playing melodic, Afro, & progressive house, just like I did for LÚMEN when I first started making noise last year. This is the kind of music that inspired me to go back to school, & every song in this playlist means something deeply personal to me. I hope I can translate that feeling to you.

This set was designed to make you feel something, not just dance.

I DID IT! 🎓

First, I have to thank three of my favorite instructors. I couldn’t take a photo with Brad Winters, but he is a big reason I finished this program.

Clint Moody (the legend on the right), works with some of the coolest artists like Big Gigantic, Chase Atlantic, Mersiv, SoDown, Smoakland, Ravenscoon, etc. On top of being an Ableton wizard 🧙‍♂️, you’re incredibly talented at everything you do, & I wish you lived closer so I could absorb even more knowledge from you. I learnt the best part of this program from you.

Nick Hosford, (the legend on the left) the Director of Education & my biggest nightmare during Post Production haha, I’m grateful for your patience & grace. You knew I hated that class, & you helped me push through it until I finished.

…I still can’t believe I have a higher education degree in music. When I look back on my childhood, I was the one (w my cousin Suamy) building drum sets out of buckets & my grandma’s old pans (oh, she loved it 😬). I was the one singing the newest pop music at my aunt’s living room with my cousin Shadia, the one choreographing my girl cousins to Atrévete by Calle 13, translating lyrics from English to Spanish & bringing the newest music to my sisters. I was the one in marching band. The gay kid of the family who knew how to dance like Shakira 😂🤫. That karaoke friend. The one in charge of the aux.

It was always there, y’all. It was always about music.

I just never thought that road was possible for me (even though I was already on it), because I was a professional on something else. 🏡

I’m glad I followed my own path & committed to making my inner child happy on his own playground.

It’s only been a year since I started doing this professionally (AKA for money lol), & I’ve already had the chance to work with some amazing people & be invited to the coolest places… and I haven’t even released any of my music yet. 😏

This has been a beautiful year; full of surprises, connections, & so much love for what I truly love to do. I am so grateful. 💙

And I feel so lucky to have you in my life. I had forgotten the warmth of a family, or maybe I never had it to even know what it felt like, but your thoughtfulness, kindness & love have make my life a lot brighter, even on the days you drive me crazy 🤪, you have taken the task to make me feel like family & I am beyond grateful.
I can’t wait to see you grow with me & experience all the things we are destined for.

Recently, I came across a reel by my friend who explained the current situation beautifully from a Christian perspective (slide 1).
And last week, as I listened to old childhood music, I came across “Gimme Tha Power” by that felt sooo fitting for today’s climate.
If you think this post is out of touch or it doesn’t align with your beliefs, views, rhetoric, or values. You’re most welcome to get the f**k out of my life. I don’t think I have ever needed or will ever need someone in my life SO bad to betray my belief in humanity & compassion, in that way you think it’s “just” & righteous to do.
I still believe that with time you will understand what side of history you’re on while it’s being written, & I hope you with your descendants don’t have to pay the price.

Some things you just can’t buy, like an accountability partner. She is not that at all by any means 🤣, but sometimes she is more motivated than me & it helps a ton haha.
I love you Vero. You deserve a gold medal for waiting on me everyday in the parking lot, and then after you’re done working out 🥹
Thank you for your patience when I am on my man-period as well lol. I could’ve not done all of this without you, my hero. 💙

I can’t believe it’s been a year since she asked me to teach her how to do some yoga poses, and that was my excuse to get my membership at the Gym.
It wasn’t consistent but it was more than I was doing after Kyle House left Chattanooga.
Then I had my first failed eye surgery in February & my second failed eye surgery in March (thanks Dr Gonzalez). So I had to take a break from yoga & lifting for a couple months & after that I was just a little bit more consistent.
It wasn’t until around August that I decided “enough of the bs excuses, we got the time. Let’s do this sh*t”.
A couple months later I started seeing “the little changes” & people started noticing, so I knew I wasn’t just being delulu again lol 😆
It’s been a fun journey, and I wish I could say it was hard, but it isn’t bitch. You just gotta do what works for you & enough of it to then get to the next step/level. Then when you keep it consistent you see the results.
Go to therapy & start loving yourself, and when you do that you will find it impossible to not show up for yourself at things like this.
