POV: You picked up a phone at Soul of Cville and ended up having a heart-to-heart with the person you’re becoming. 👀☎️

We said, “Leave a message.”

That’s it.

No script.
No pressure to be profound.
Just you, a phone, and whatever needed to be said.

Maybe it was something your younger self needed to hear.

Maybe it was advice for the future you.

Maybe it was simply a reminder to keep going when life gets a little… lifey. 😂

Whatever the message, there’s something powerful about hearing people pause long enough to talk to themselves.

Because Future Heirlooms: We Are The Ancestors asks us to think beyond the moment.

What wisdom are you creating today that someone else might carry tomorrow?

☎️ So listen closely.

This one might make you laugh.
It might make you think.
It might even hit a little too close to home.

🎙️ Press play. Another ancestor has something to say.

Vintage Vinegar Hill Clothing Co. takes its name from a once-thriving Charlottesville neighborhood—first home to Irish immigrants in the early 1800s, later a historically Black business district. The brand draws on that layered past, nodding to a culture of local enterprise. Its aesthetic leans co...

Whew 😅 lawd!!! Now that we’ve had a little bit of time to gather ourselves together after a phenomenal weeklong cultural fest…we’d be remiss NOT to come give some long overdue flowers 💐.

Some things can’t be built alone. ❤️💚

Soul of Cville is one of those things.

As we close out the 2026 season, we’re sitting with a whole lot of gratitude. Not just because we made it through another festival season, but because once again, this community showed us what can happen when people are willing to pour into the places, people, businesses, artists, and stories that make Charlottesville what it is.

Future Heirlooms: We Are The Ancestors was more than a theme. It was a reminder that what we build today becomes somebody else’s history tomorrow.

And this year, you helped us build something worth remembering.

8 events. 7 days. 35 awards presented. 80 small businesses supported. 4,000 votes. 2,500 guests.

Behind every number was a person.

A small business owner.
A performer.
An artist.
A volunteer.
A young person watching what’s possible.
A community member who simply decided to show up.

And behind all of that were sponsors and partners who believed enough to say, “Yes, we’ll help make this happen.”

To every organization, business, creative, community partner, and individual who invested in Soul of Cville with your dollars, resources, talent, space, time, expertise, encouragement, or simply your presence:

Thank you. Truly.

Your support allowed us to keep creating spaces where Black culture is celebrated, local businesses are seen, creatives have a platform, young people can dream bigger, and generations can gather in the same room and recognize themselves in one another.

That is the Soul.

And we don’t take your investment in it lightly. 🫶🏾

And to every person who showed up, shared a post, bought a ticket 🎟️ , nominated a business 🏆, voted, danced 🕺🏾, shopped 🛍️, ate 🍲, laughed 😂, applauded 👏🏾, volunteered 🫶🏾, modeled, performed, sponsored, donated, or told somebody else about Soul of Cville:

You are part of this story, too.

We are deeply grateful for the trust you continue to place in this work.

Because being an ancestor isn’t just about what we leave behind.

It’s about what we choose to build while we’re still here.

And baby… we’re building 🏗️ 🦺 .

Thank you for helping us make 2026 another chapter worth passing down.

POV: You picked up a phone at Soul of Cville and accidentally started a conversation with your future self. 👀☎️

Because apparently, all we had to do was put a vintage phone booth in the room and tell y’all to leave a message. 😂

To your younger self.
To your future self.
To the version of you who hasn’t lived it all yet.

And BABY… y’all had some things to say. 👀

No scripts.
No rehearsals.
No perfectly packaged “inspirational” moments.

Just truth. Reflection. Wisdom. Regret. Hope. Love.

And a few messages that had us minding our business while simultaneously needing to know EVERYTHING. 😂

Because Future Heirlooms: We Are The Ancestors was never just a theme.

It’s a reminder that we are actively creating the stories, wisdom, and lessons somebody else will inherit.

So here’s your assignment:

☎️ Pick up the phone.
🎙️ Say what you need to say.
🫢 And try not to get in your feelings.

Press play. The ancestors are talking.

And yes… they brought receipts. 👀

Would you tell your younger self the truth… or your future self the tea? 👀☎️

We gave Soul of Cville guests a phone booth and one assignment:

Leave a message.

To the person you used to be.
To the person you’re becoming.
To the version of you who hasn’t lived it all yet.

No speeches. No polished sound bites. Just real people, real reflection, and a few words worth carrying forward.

Because Future Heirlooms: We Are The Ancestors isn’t just a theme. It’s a reminder that we are actively creating the wisdom, stories, and lessons that the next version of us, and the next generation, will inherit.

So…what would you say if nobody could interrupt you?

🎙️ Press play. The ancestors are talking.
