YOU CAN’T BECOME WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE.....This was the primary inspiration for the founding of 👨🏾⚕️👩🏾⚕️ The shortage of minority doctors was a well known fact yet, it didn’t inspire a wave of massive outcry for change that would lead to more black and brown bodies in white coats. Some May say what does the election results have to do with medicine? EVERYTHING. Medicine goes beyond the 15 min appt at a clinic or ER visit. Many of the health disparities that plague our communities disproportionately are the end result of social injustices caused by the 400 year pandemic called RACISM. This pandemic has unfairly targeted many shades of brown across the rainbow. Let me be clear- you can’t have good health if you live in a food dessert. You can’t see a doctor regularly if your job doesn’t provide adequate benefits. You can’t create access points for healthcare in underserved communities if there is a shortage of minority doctors who are willing to work there. These last 4 years have set our community back and in many cases irreversible pain and loss has occurred with this pandemic. Let us not be naive that change of administration will magically end the bias and trauma we endure; However it is the beginning of a new chapter to do the REAL WORK that will better our communities and allow them to reimagine the relationship with healthcare once given proper social support. Here’s to a new tomorrow to begin the healing and restoring and breaking cycles of generational trauma. Cheers to a new beginning✨
