Burnt out after years of working in luxury resorts and country clubs, Lewis Donald changed up the pace and opened Sweet Lewโ€™s BBQ in 2018 โ€” trading in white-tablecloth service for all-wood-smoked BBQ out of a converted gas station and car repair shop.

๐—ช๐—ต๐˜† ๐˜„๐—ฒโ€™๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ: Sweet Lewโ€™s has become a Charlotte staple, drawing families, BBQ obsessives, and anyone craving Carolina and Southern-style plates. The restaurant has earned rave reviews from diners and critics alike, with Southern Living calling Lewis one of the next BBQ legends shaping the future of Southern BBQ. He also runs the Carolina BBQ Festival, one of the fastest-growing BBQ events in the South. This is Lewisโ€™ first year at Pig Island NYC, and we canโ€™t wait to see what he brings.

This crew! Our hearts + stomachs are full ๐Ÿ˜‰ what an amazing time celebrating our bbq community at the 5th annual Carolina barbecue festival.

This event wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the incredible people in this photo and the hundreds more who showed up, showed out, and made Uptown Charlotte, NC. feel like home for two days straight.
