✨Announcement: A New Chapter Unfolds at Brooklyn Collective! ✨

The Brooklyn Collective has been privileged to nurture performing and visual arts through the Brooklyn Collective Gallery, the Historic Grace and Society at 229.

As we celebrate the remarkable journey of the past four years of the Brookyn Collective Gallery - we share our gratuities of the talented curators and artists that made all powerful exhibitions possible and the community that supported the same.

Today, we proudly introduce the gallery's next chapter. The Uptown Brooklyn Gallery, led by the visionary Keith Golden of Art by Golden/Golden Galleries, this new gallery will continue our legacy of excellence in fine arts. Renowned for representing some of the nation's most talented artists and for pioneering the nationally acclaimed Black Fine Art Fair traveling exhibition, Mr. Golden brings a wealth of experience and passion to our community.

Stay tuned as the Uptown Brooklyn Gallery expands its hours, inviting all to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of artistic expression. We extend heartfelt gratitude to our founding partners whose unwavering support has enabled curators, artists, collectors, patrons, and installers to showcase their talents within our space.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey, promoting creativity and inclusivity through the enduring spirit of the arts!

Meet the Artist | Anthony Burks Sr.

Mid-Career Artist | Mr. Anthony Burks Sr. is a master at creating life-like form in his paintings by using various media including charcoal, pens and ink, pastels, watercolor, and colored pencil.

His use of color juxtaposed against stark white backgrounds to create a three-dimensional feel is a rare quality seen in very few artist’s work. I dare to say that the iconic artist, the late great Charles White would be delighted with his works of Art.

View works by Anthony Burks Sr. at the Uptown Brooklyn Gallery Wednesday through Saturday from 11am-6pm.

Meet the Artist | Kevin Nance West

Emerging Artist | Kevin is a contemporary abstract and portrait painter. Kevin is a cancer survivor who has used this obstacle to fuel his passion for life and his craft as a fine artist. Kevin‘s current work is filled with colorful lines that create emotion in the viewer of the works. Many of these current works focus on children, being children, enjoying life as they dream about their future, without limits being placed on them by the world’s view of them.

Meet the Artist | Ametria Stamps

Emerging Artist | Mrs. Ametria Stamps is an artist truly, guided and inspired by God, the creator of the universe to paint in an abstract form. Her works of art are created using acrylic, oil, cloth, and many other media. When asked to explain her creative process, Ametria is consistent in her response, “It’s really unexplainable, God is the author and finisher of my artwork. When He moves me to begin a work of Art, I start immediately. When He says the work is finished, I stop because the painting is complete.”

View works by Ametria Stamps at the Uptown Brooklyn Gallery Wednesday through Saturday from 11am-6pm.

Meet the Artist | Najee Dorsey

Mid-Career Artist | Najee is a contemporary American visual artist known for using mixed-media, collage, various paints, and photographic works that depict southern African American life among other important subject matter. Najee is truly cut from the same cloth as Bearden, Denmark, and Jacob Lawrence, as he uses his unique style to tell stories about American life primarily in the Mississippi Delta and the Deep South. One of Najee’s favorite subject matter to create work about is the history of the Delta Blues.

Meet the Artist | James Denmark

Book End | Mr. Denmark was born into a family of artists. This family foundation exposed James to various disciplines in art that gave him a solid base. His grandmother was a master at using color and form in her quilts and wire sculpture. His grandfather was a noted bricklayer with unique designs and molds that were recognized in his community as his very own mark. His mother was gifted with an intuitive, feel for unique designs and patterns. This family foundation of creativity was the root that James Denmark grew, and blossomed from.

Join us as we bid fair well this week to our current exhibition: re [ ]

renew, resolve, reignite

re [ ]: the beginning of an action verb indicating repetition or restoration. re [ ] is a preposition in use since at least the 18th century, meaning “in the matter of, with reference to.” In today’s digital world, Re: is most often seen with a colon in the subject line of an email abbreviating a response or reply, implying the continuation of a conversation.

Take your final look this Friday at 6:00pm

re[vere]
"I revere the healthcare heroes who worked courageously and tirelessly to guide through the pandemic and wish to recognize their continued efforts each and every day."

Who is Tim Okamura?
Born in Edmonton, Canada, Tim Okamura began his artistic journey at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, where he earned his B.F.A. with Distinction. He further honed his skills at the School of Visual Arts in New York, graduating with an M.F.A. in Illustration as Visual Journalism in 1993.

Okamura is an internationally acclaimed artist celebrated for his unique style that combines traditional oil painting techniques with mixed media and elements of abstraction filtered through a contemporary urban perspective. His work focuses on themes of identity, resilience, representation, and community, and has been exhibited around the globe, earning a place in numerous museums and prestigious private collections.

"In my work, I explore different aspects of identity, culture, the urban environment, and abstract painting. As an artist, I am drawn to the human experience in all its diversity and richness, a fascination that is reflected in my portraits. Rooted in my bi-cultural experience of being raised in Canada with a prominent Japanese heritage combined with decades of living in New York, my approach is an amalgamation of the traditional and the contemporary, the East and the West, the physical and the spiritual."

"The recurring themes in my work – identity, resilience, community – are explored through a lens of compassion and empathy, encouraging the viewer to question their own perceptions, and to engage in broader conversations about diversity and inclusion. In this ongoing quest for connection and understanding, I believe that art has the power to bridge cultural gaps and challenge stereotypes."
