Set your gear out in one place so it's easy to grab and go. Take a moment to catch your breath, then focus on getting into your kayak safely and smoothly. You don't need to rush. A calm, steady transition will help you feel more in control once you're on the water.

Practice if you can, but don't overthink it - you'll get the hang of it on race day.

Let's make it a full weekend at the park!

Come race the Run Duck Run, then stay and enjoy the Duck River Outdoor Expo happening all weekend, with the main event July 11, at Henry Horton State Park.

After you finish, explore exhibits, learn about the river, and spend the time with family and friends. The park restaurant will be open, so you can grab a meal, relax, and enjoy the evening before packing up Sunday morning.

The Duck River is one of the most biologically diverse rivers in North America - home to more species of freshwater mussels than anywhere else on the continent.

One of those is the Pink Mucket Mussel - a rare species that helps filter and clean the water as it feeds. These mussels are like the river's built-in purification system, quietly keeping the ecosystem balanced.
