The 6th out of state convention took us to Burbank CA for the All-State California Convention hosted by the Southern California Council where the theme was "Life ~ Learning ~ Friendship Our Superpowers". Originally Dolly and I planned to go together and with a superhero theme we had our wardrobe accordingly. For Friday night we planned to wear a wonder woman t-shirt paired with a blue tutu with sh*te stars! And for Saturday we planned to be urban style super girls with a super girl t-shirt, jeans, red cowboy boots and red cowboy hat! Awesome!! The day before I was to head to Burbank, Dolly's husband hurt his back and she needed to stay home with him. Bummer! So I mentally prepped myself to meet the CA sisters on my own.
My plane arrived Friday around 6, so I arrived just before the Friday event was to start. While I was mentally calculating how much time it would take to check in and change into my tutu, I walked in the door and there in front of the conference room area was a sea of women wearing very lovely cocktail dresses. I thought, okay no tutu tonight! Fortunately, I had been on business travel that week and still have my work and dressy clothes which included a cocktail dress. Phew! Wardrobe crisis averted.
Dinner was lovely and I learned many things about the way things are done at CA conventions. I met a few lovely sisters, and they took me under their wings so to speak. It seems the tutu would remain in the suitcase.
Highlights of this convention were:
Friday after parties hosted by each of the 9 councils in CA serving cocktails such as Jello shots, mudslides and all manner of other adult beverages.
Saturday morning was an opening ceremony, and lunch was a more casual affair, so I donned my wonder woman shirt and jeans plus red cowboy boots.
What was so amazing to witness was the philanthropic theme that is shared amongst all 9 councils. At the Saturday and Sunday events they announced their collective donations to foundations. Cystic Fibrosis, Scleroderma, Lupas and Kidney Research. In total these councils donated a total of $163,783.00 to these 4 foundations! Truly amazing.
It was a fun and very different convention compared to the other 5, and I loved how each was so different from the next. Thank you, California sisters. I look forward to seeing quite a few of you in Arizona!
