First Laughs at Ellis House is coming up Friday, June 12.

We’re opening the doors for a night of live improv comedy with Yesandia, a local non-profit improv comedy group bringing a fully unscripted show to Ellis House.

Every scene, joke, and moment is made up on the spot, so the show only happens once.

This is also the first public event inside Ellis House, which makes it a fun chance to see the space, support local performers, and be part of the first night of many.

After months of work, Ellis House is finally starting to feel like the space we imagined.

It’s a modern studio and gathering space in Cedar Rapids built for events, shoots, workshops, mixers, intimate weddings, showers, brand activations, and creative projects.

We wanted something flexible, polished, and different from the typical rental space. A place that could host a meaningful event one day, a video shoot the next, and a creative gathering after that.

Whether it’s a panel discussion, speaker event, workshop, training, podcast, or community gathering, there are a lot of moving pieces that have to come together.

Ellis House now offers professional event audio systems both in-house and for off-site events throughout Eastern Iowa.

Whether you’re bringing together 20 people or 200, our goal is simple:

Not every meeting needs a conference room.

Sometimes you just need a space that feels different.

Our front lounge at Ellis House is available for weekday rentals and is perfect for team meetings, client presentations, workshops, networking groups, brainstorming sessions, and small gatherings.

With comfortable seating, natural light, high speed WiFi, and a thoughtfully designed atmosphere, it’s a place where conversations flow a little easier and ideas have room to grow.

Oh, and that “painting” in the gold frame isn’t actually a piece of art. It’s a 65” TV you can use for presentations or video calls.

Available by the hour, half day, or full day.

Does anyone recognize these two?

We’ve poured our hearts and our money into building our space and beautifying our little corner of Ellis, to have these two steal our sprinkler system for the new sod we just had installed including the smart timer, and left our hose running full blast down the sidewalk for 10 hours. They also broke something of ours and threw it in the grass.

They were peering in our windows and while this will cost us a couple hundred and some hours to replace, I’m just glad we have a full security system inside and out.

Please keep an eye out for these two, and if you see them, please keep an eye on your things.

Small details change how a place feels.

We just wrapped another exterior update at Ellis House with fresh landscaping and new sod going in to help create a more intentional first impression.

When we took this building on, the vision was never just to create four walls people could rent. It was to build a space that feels thoughtful, refined, and different from the moment you arrive.

Because the experience starts before you ever walk through the door.

Cedar Rapids deserves beautiful spaces too.
