INDA President & CEO Tony Fragnito issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the Trump Administration’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to implement tariffs:

“Friday’s Supreme Court decision underscores the importance of a transparent and targeted approach to U.S. trade policy. Predictable and proportionate trade measures provide stability necessary for continued investment and innovation across U.S. manufacturing.”

“The nonwovens industry depends on reliable supply chains and a rules-based trading framework to produce essential products used in healthcare, filtration, transportation, and hygiene applications,” Fragnito continued. “Broad or unpredictable tariffs can raise input costs and disrupt key operations. INDA encourages the Administration to work collaboratively with U.S. allies to confront unfair trade practices while keeping critical raw materials and markets open.”

“A balanced trade approach that strengthens manufacturing competitiveness and fosters international cooperation will help sustain the growth and resilience of the nonwovens industry and the broader U.S. economy.”

🔁 Wrapping Up Our Week of Action

Throughout this week, we’ve shared a series of posts to highlight the significance of Menstrual Hygiene Day—amplifying awareness, breaking stigma, and sparking conversations around access, education, and dignity.

Together with global partners and advocates, including AHPMA (Absorbent Hygiene Product Manufacturers Association), BAHP (Center for Baby and Adult Hygiene Products), and EDANA (the voice of nonwovens), we’ve reflected on where we’ve come from, where we are now, and the goals we’re working toward for a more period-friendly future.

As an industry, we remain deeply committed to safety, transparency, and building consumer confidence—ensuring that everyone can manage their periods with confidence and care.

Thank you for being part of the movement!

✨Looking Ahead: Building a Period-Friendly World

As we continue our week-long series for Menstrual Hygiene Day, today we focus on the future. The global movement envisions a world where menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, health, or equality.

Key ambitions include:

- Ending Period Poverty: Ensuring everyone has access to menstrual products.

- Comprehensive Education: Integrating menstrual health into school curricula to foster understanding and reduce stigma.

- Policy Integration: Embedding menstrual hygiene management into national health and education policies.

Together, we can create a world where menstruation is met with dignity and support.

🩸Menstrual Hygiene Day: A Global Movement, A Shared Goal

Today we commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day—a global movement launched in 2014 by WASH United to break the silence around menstruation and advance menstrual health and hygiene worldwide.

Over the past ten years, the impact [1] has been extraordinary:

🔸 1,157 partner organizations have come together—from grassroots groups to UN agencies and national governments

🔸 In 2024, the campaign reached an estimated 966 million people—about one-eighth of the global population, marking a 37.8% increase from the previous year.

🔸 Media engagement has soared from just 89 pieces in 2014 to 23,400 in 2024.

These milestones reflect a growing global commitment to ensuring menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, health, or opportunity.

✨ AHPMA, BAHP, EDANA, and INDA proudly stand behind this mission—advocating for progress, awareness, and equitable access for all.

📅 How Menstrual Hygiene Day Began

The global conversation around menstrual health began to shift in 2012, as grassroots groups, UN agencies, and advocates started breaking the silence on menstrual hygiene. Building on that momentum, WASH United launched a 28-day social media campaign in May 2013 called , designed to raise awareness and spark public dialogue.

The campaign’s success laid the foundation for the first Menstrual Hygiene Day, celebrated on 28 May 2014. With 145 partner organizations involved, the day featured rallies, workshops, and community events around the world.

Since then, similar campaigns have continued to challenge stigma, encourage inclusive dialogue, and push for equitable access to menstrual care and hygiene for everyone.

🕰️ A Glimpse at the History of Menstrual Products!

To mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day, AHPMA, the Absorbent Hygiene Product Manufacturers Association, BAHP, the Center for Baby and Adult Hygiene Products, EDANA, the Voice of Nonwovens, and INDA, are partnering to share a week of posts showcasing the importance of Menstrual Hygiene. We are beginning with a look back at where it all started.

Menstrual care products went through many transformations throughout the decades. Early materials included leaves, moss, animal skins, rags, and even wood, which eventually evolved into belted fabric products in the 1800s. This progression continued through World War I, when cellulose began replacing cotton bandages, paving the way for the first commercial pads around 1920.

We’ve come a long way, and the journey continues.
