White House Elevates COS Champion and 9/11 Survivor to Pentagon

Brian Birdwell, a Texas state senator, military veteran, and longtime supporter of the Convention of States movement, was recently confirmed as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Sustainment. Birdwell has championed the use of an Article V convention as a constitutional solution to limit federal spending, power, and term lengths.

Birdwell survived the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon despite severe burns and numerous surgeries. He has dedicated much of his life since then to helping wounded service members and burn survivors. Recognized with honors including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Legion of Merit, Birdwell is a symbol of resilience, faith, and public service.

Growing Number of Military Veterans Supports Convention of States

Convention of States (COS) honors the nearly 338,000 military veterans who have signed its petition and praises their continued commitment to defend the Constitution. Veterans have a unique appreciation for liberty because they have sacrificed to protect it. Service members defend freedom abroad, and Americans must protect freedom at home by holding politicians accountable. The large number of veteran supporters demonstrates growing support for COS' effort to call an Article V convention aimed at limiting federal power.

Leaders Launchpad Website Offers a Life-changing Opportunity

The Leaders Launchpad internship from Convention of States Action offers young adults ages 18–25 a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain hands-on grassroots experience, and deepen their understanding of constitutional principles and Western civilization.

Unlike traditional internships, participants work directly with experienced mentors and state teams on meaningful projects such as volunteer engagement, media creation, event planning, legislative research, and public testimony. The program also includes leadership training, weekly discussions, and networking opportunities with peers nationwide.

The internship runs from September 14, 2026, to May 14, 2027, requires 5–10 hours per week, and combines remote and in-person participation. Applications are open through July 31. The program is designed to help participants build leadership skills and civic engagement experience while balancing school, work, and personal commitments.
