Hello Central PA Drag and Variety supporters!
Back in 2023, Central PA Drag and Variety came together to provide accesible and sober spaces for LGBTQIAP+ artistic expression, through drag and variety shows. With the hard work of 4 q***r women, we raised money for local q***r nonprofits, and made history with the first drag show at the historic Carlisle Theatre—even making the local newspaper! Over the past two years, we have created a stage for q***r and trans artists to showcase their artistry, and to express themselves safely. We welcomed new performers, alongside veteran performers, and gave them a low pressure atmosphere for artistry. Along with providing a sober and accessible space, we successfully distributed over 50 doses of narcan, and other amazing harm reduction supplies such as masks, contraceptives, fentanyl and xylazine testing strips, menstrual products, abortion access information, and additional resources at our events.
Our organization has been ran by unpaid volunteers and was able to contribute to so much positivity during one of the most tumultuous times in American history. Sadly, after two years, circumstances have changed for some of our current board members, and the board has come to the decision to dissolve Central PA Drag and Variety. We absolutely cherish the connections we have made, the community impact we have provided and outright fun we have had getting to share these spaces with you all. We do not make this decision lightly, but we also recognize when it is time for change.
We strongly encourage everyone who follows this page to continue to support all of the local drag queens, kings, things, q***r artists, and allies, who’ve given us all so much of their art and time. Now more than ever, the LGBTQIAP+ community needs your support. We also encourage our supporters to follow and support local orgs such as, Rainbow Rose Center of York, GLO Harrisburg, The LGBT Center of Central PA and Neurodiverse Network. We cannot begin to thank everyone enough who has worked with Central PA Drag and Variety. We absolutely could not have been what we were without each and everyone who has worked with and supported us these past two years. So with that, we thank you all for your support, and can’t wait to see what else Central PA’s drag scene has in store! We love you all!
