Thank you Caribou and the Marathon community for a successful run. It is with regret that we tell you that the 2021 Marathon will be the last one in Caribou. No future races will be scheduled. Thank you everyone for the great memories.

My ❤️ is so full today! Thank you to all who made the most of what would have been a beautiful day for a race. For those who stopped by the Rec- you were the bright spot in our morning... and the unofficial water stop on the Van Buren Road was pretty awesome too. Lemons 🍋 into lemonade, right?!

Dear Caribou Marathon Participants,

Oh how quickly things change in a global pandemic… After a meeting with our partners and Cary Medical Center, Pines Health Services, Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department and the Caribou Police Department, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Caribou Marathon.

Late last week, we were hopeful that we would still be able to hold this race, but Aroostook County COVID numbers are just too high and continuing to climb. Aroostook County transmission rates are now the highest in the State of Maine. Our hospitals are full and our partners no longer have the ability to offer volunteers and medical support at the race. It comes down to the safety of our runners, and we are not willing to take any risks.

Furthermore, we want you all to experience Caribou, Maine at its very best! We want to continue to provide the race experience that you’ve come to know and love - and we just can’t do that at this time.

We will continue to offer a virtual option or grant a refund of your signup fee. Please email [email protected] with your decision. Please be patient with us as we have hundreds of runners to help through this process. You will be receiving more info from CompetitorME later today and Sub 5 Race Management is helping us spread the word.

We thank you all for your patience and understanding as we continue to make the best of this health crisis. We only wish we would be cheering you on this Sunday…

We will look forward to seeing you again in 2022!

Good morning Race Fam!

We hope you are ready to RUN with us in just one short week, but we know some of you may be feeling anxious about COVID-19, the Delta variant and community transmission.

In the spirit of transparency, we want you to know that our county, Aroostook County, is definitely a hot-sopt at this time. However, we want you to be able to make your own informed decision about your health and wellness.

So, please read the note below. We will offer some options to those who may not want to visit. We are also ending our registration a few days early to curb crowd size - BUT we WILL be hosting the race on September 19 🏃‍♀️🏃😄.

Your choices:
✅ We will see you on September 19, 2021 for a scaled back version of our race with masks required at the start only, fewer volunteers at aid stations (less hand-to-hand contact) and pre-packaged meals at the finish line; or

✅ Get a refund of your race fee if you decide the risk is greater than the reward; or

✅ Try a virtual version and we will send you your swag bag, shirt and medal upon completion of your race - this one is on the honor system (we trust ya 😉)
