The New Orleans Saints enter the offseason with questions from the top down as they kick off their head coaching search. After installing their new leader, the question will turn to Derek Carr's future.

The quarterback inked a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints in 2023. With two years remaining, the Saints must decide if they will move on and eat a chunk of dead money, or attempt to restructure Carr's contract. For his part, Carr told ESPN's Katherine Terrell that he has no interest in taking a pay cut to remain in New Orleans.

"I wouldn't take a pay cut," he said. "Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Especially with what I put on tape. Would I restructure? Absolutely. I'll always help the team that way. But there's some things that you put out there that you earned. Even in some cases it could be even worse, but I felt confident when I signed it that this would give the team the best flexibility at the time. ... But there's always a kind of respect as a quarterback you're like, well still we're in that respectful lane. 'We're good. Build the team.' But yeah, I wouldn't take anything less to do this. It's hard enough putting our bodies through it. And you're trying to get everything you can for your family for it."

Carr noted that he has had "super positive" conversations with the front office about his future. Still, at this stage, he's just focusing on getting fully healthy after missing the final four games of the season due to a broken non-throwing hand.

"I got to take care of myself and then the rest after that is really out of my hands," Carr said Monday. "I've had great conversations with everyone in this building with [general manager] Mickey [Loomis], with [owner] Ms. [Gayle] Benson, with everybody. And we all have mutual feelings and so my confidence level is very high and what can happen, what could happen. And we've shown what it could possibly be at times. The hard part is we had to deal with some stuff that we didn't get to see that full picture all the time. So we'll see."

At a minimum, a contract restructure is on the way, as he currently sits with a $51.46 million salary cap figure for 2025. Carr is due $30 million in base salary that becomes fully guaranteed if on the roster on the third day of the new league year in March -- it's guaranteed for injury. His contract also calls for a $10 million guaranteed roster bonus due in March, which would be subject to offsets if he's cut and signs elsewhere.

New Orleans is once again significantly over the projected salary cap for 2025, needing restructures and potential releases to become compliant before the new league year opens. A post-June 1 release of Carr would allow the Saints to spread the cap hit over two seasons.

In 10 games in 2024, Carr completed 67.7 percent of 279 attempts with 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. After a hot first two weeks of the season, the Saints offense cooled off and struggled to find consistency. Carr missed three games in the middle of the season with an oblique injury, then the final four tilts.

The new coach will likely have a lot to say about Carr's future in New Orleans. The Saints have, thus far, requested head coaching interviews with Lions DC Aaron Glenn, Giants OC Mike Kafka, Eagles OC Kellen Moore, former Stanford HC David Shaw and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver. Interim coach Darren Rizzi also confirmed he would interview for the head coaching gig. Rizzi sounded optimistic about what Carr can still bring to the table.

"People can form their own opinions about Derek Carr and again, they're entitled to those," Rizzi said Monday. "We didn't win a game when he didn't start."

The Saints finished 5-12, 3-5 under Rizzi, in 2024. They went 14-13 in games Carr started over two seasons.

Despite finishing with one of the worst records in the NFL in 2024, the Giants are keeping their head coach and general manager as Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen will return to New York in 2025, co-owner John Mara announced Monday morning.

"Now that our season is over, we felt it necessary to make this statement," Mara wrote. "Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will continue in their respective roles with the organization. As disappointing as the results of the season have been, Steve (Tisch) and I remain confident in the process that Joe and Brian have implemented and their vision for our team.

"We look forward to the future and achieving the results we all desire."

Sean Payton on Broncos' postseason: 'Young and hungry can sometimes be pretty dangerous'

The Denver Broncos snapped a nine-year playoff absence by routing the Kansas City Chiefs' second-teamers, 38-0, on Sunday. For their effort, Sean Payton's squad faces potential league MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.

Few will give these Broncos, led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, a chance at upsetting a Bills squad making its sixth consecutive playoff appearance. Don't tell Sean Payton his upstart club has not shot.

"Young and hungry can sometimes be pretty dangerous," Payton said Sunday, via the team's official transcript.

The 24-year-old Nix joined John Elway as the only rookie QB to lead the Broncos to the playoffs. Sunday against Chiefs backups, Nix went 26-of-29 passing for 321 yards with four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 152.4 passer rating. His 18 straight completions to open the contest were the most by a rookie to start a game.

"It's fun to clinch a playoff spot in the last game of the year against a divisional team, which is kind of a great story, but now playoff time starts," Nix said. "Our goal wasn't just to make the playoffs, even though it hadn't been done in a while. It's for a lot more than that. We're excited about the opportunity. I know it's going to be tough, but we've got a game to play."

Bengals fire DC Lou Anarumo after six seasons

The Bengals were a sieve this past year, particularly early in the season, as Cincy dug a big hole to open the campaign, including losing multiple shootouts. The Bengals gave up 24-plus points nine times in their first 12 games.

The defense closed better as Cincinnati went on a five-game win streak to end the season, including giving up a season-low 193 total yards and 119 pass yards to Pittsburgh in Week 18, but it wasn't enough for Anarumo to keep his job.

Given his standing and the fact that he'd helped the club reach Super Bowl LVI, Anarumo could be scooped up by another organization this offseason.

Browns fire offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, plan to keep head coach Kevin Stefanski

The Browns fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after his one season with the team, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, per sources.

Cleveland, which finished 3-14 and averaged 15.2 points per game, also fired offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, per Pelissero.

Pelissero added that these changes are not expected to extend to Kevin Stefanski, as the plan is to have the head coach return for a sixth season in charge of a remodeled offensive staff.

Dorsey, 43, joined Cleveland during the 2024 offseason after he was fired by the Bills midway through his second season as OC in Buffalo. Dorsey took over for Brian Daboll with the Bills in 2022 and was succeeded by Joe Brady. Who will succeed Dorsey with the Browns remains to be seen.

Bengals' Zac Taylor after win to preserve playoff hopes: Teams won't 'want us in this tournament'

Watch now:-๐Ÿ“บ livetvevents.com/NFL-season-2025

Cincinnati has done all it can.

Now the wait begins.

With their fifth straight win on Saturday, a 19-17 nail-biter over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals kept hope alive for a postseason berth that felt impossible directly after the last time the two teams squared off on Dec. 1.

Even now, amid a remarkable turnaround, the odds are unkind. Both the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins must lose Sunday for the Bengals to claim the AFC's final playoff spot. Such a small window won't prevent head coach Zac Taylor from highlighting his team's resilience, though.

"Guys just believed this was one we had to have," Taylor said Saturday following the victory. "These guys came with the right attitude. They've had the right attitude. They've stuck together. I think this is an appropriate end to this game. It's what we've done the last five weeks. These guys, just at 4-8, probably one of the lowest moments we've had, you know, sitting there and staring at that record with the expectations we had. And the choice the guys made was let's stick with the process, stick with what we're doing, believe in each other. Everybody gave their most. We won five in a row and put ourselves in a position to cross our fingers tomorrow and cheer like a lot of fans."

Colts HC Shane Steichen confident despite another season without playoffs: 'I think we're really close'

A worse year than his first has not shaken Shane Steichen's confidence.

As Indianapolis heads into the final weekend of the regular season without a chance to finish above .500 or reach the playoffs, pessimism is sure to abound -- just not in the Colts head coach's office.

"I think we're really close," Steichen said Friday, per the Indianapolis Star. "I do. When you have a season like this, you know, it's frustrating, but we've got a lot of good guys in the locker room, I've said that before, and I know those guys will go out and fight like crazy to finish."

Whatever takes place when Indy takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday will not change the fact that Steichen and Co. weren't close enough this season, though.

The follow-up to Steichen's promising first season with the Colts has instead taken some steam out of whatever momentum seemed to be starting under him.

With starting quarterback Brock Purdy dealing with an elbow injury, Joshua Dobbs is set to make his first start of the 2024 season in San Francisco's season-finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

It's an opportunity that the 49ers journeyman QB is looking to take advantage of on Sunday.

"Anytime you get a chance to get on the field and play it's always an audition, not only for the team that you're on, but for the other 31 teams," Dobbs said Thursday, via the Associated Press. "Especially knowing my contract situation and being a free agent in March. So it's an opportunity to go out and show what I can do here as a 49er in this scheme as well as for other opportunities. I kind of let free agency and all that stuff work itself out when that time comes, but I'm just excited for the opportunity to get on the field and play."
