Great Pumpkin Race The 2026 Great Pumpkin Race is back for some family-friendly fun on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The Challenge continues in 2022!

The Annual Great Pumpkin Race benefits Stark County Special Olympics programs. On October 29, 2022, Stark County DD will celebrate 24 years of the Great Pumpkin Race. It is a 4-mile timed race on a certified course, and a 1-mile fun run/walk. For our youngest runners is the Lil Pumpkin 50 yard Dash for kids ages 8 and under. Our goal for the Great Pumpkin Race is to raise public awareness regardin

g the abilities of people with developmental disabilities. Finisher pins for all who cross the finish line in all three races. Our family-fun event includes pumpkin activities for all ages: pumpkin decorating, pumpkin cart racing, face painting, oversized kids games, and Guess the Weight of the Great Pumpkin contest. In 2021 we teamed up with Run to You Racing - the Haunted Forest Marathon to present the NINE LIVES CHALLENGE. Those who complete BOTH the Great Pumpkin 4 Miler AND ANY of the Sunday distances in the Haunted Forest Marathon will receive a special 9 LIVES CHALLENGE MEDAL.

EVENT UPDATE - HAUNTED FOREST MARATHON
The 9 Lives Challenge portion of the Haunted Forest Marathon / Half / 5K will look a little different in 2026. There will now be a 1 week gap between the Haunted Forest Marathon and the Great Pumpkin Race. This will give more people an opportunity to run / walk both events! All who run / walk the Haunted Forest Marathon, Half, or 5K AND participate in the Great Pumpkin Race will receive the 9 Lives Challenge Medal. Dates are October 25th for the Haunted Forest and October 31st for the Great Pumpkin Race. Registration is open for both events!

Good luck to all of the athletes headed to the Special Olympics Ohio State Indoor Winter Games at the Ohio State University in Columbus. 🏀🏊‍♂️📣

Running February 20-22, 2026, the event hosts athletes, Unified partners, and coaches from across the state to compete in basketball, basketball skills, cheerleading, and swimming.

Stark DD is proud to be represented by four athlete swimmers, along with their coaches and Stark DD Special Olympics Coordinator Paula Gardner.
