Tragedy has struck our small community, and our hearts are heavy. Please join us in lifting this family up in prayer. May God surround them with His peace, comfort them in their grief, and carry them through the days ahead. May our community come together in love and support as they walk through this unimaginable loss.

On March 11th, a horrific tragedy struck my family. A massive tree fell on my brother… Ashley Miller needs your support for Ben & Abby Miller Family GoFundMe

CEEF is in the middle of restoring the Indian Trails Building — a true staple of our community that once served as a grocery store, gas station, and restaurant for generations.

Thanks to your support, we’ve already made major improvements to the foundation and structure. 🙌
Now we’re moving into the next critical phase:
🛠 Replacing the stairs to the upper level.

These stairs aren’t just cosmetic — they’re essential for safety, access, and for us to qualify for the grants that will help us fully restore this historic building.

Every step (literally!) brings us closer to preserving a piece of our community’s story. If you love Canaan and preserving our history, please consider supporting this next phase and sharing this post. 💛

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “The small landholders are the most precious part of a state.” He understood what many of us still know today: small, rural communities are the backbone of our nation—and they deserve to be protected.

The Indian Trails Building is more than just an old structure. It tells the story of who we are, where we came from, and the generations who built this community before us. Right now, this important piece of our local history needs help.

We are raising funds for the Indian Trails Building Restoration Project to preserve this landmark so it can continue to serve, educate, and inspire our community for years to come.

💛 If you believe rural history is worth saving
💛 If you want future generations to know this place and its story
💛 If you care about keeping our community strong and rooted

Please consider making a donation or sharing this post to spread the word.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has already donated to our Indian Trails Restoration Project. We have received over $1,000.00 since our donation drive started in December.

We are still raising funds to complete the restoration of the back stairs to the upper level! Our fundraiser goal for that part of the project is $12,000.00.

📣 Indian Trails Restoration Update 📣

We are excited to share progress on the Indian Trails restoration project. The foundation has officially been fixed, an important milestone in saving this historic building for our community.

👉 Next up: repairing the stairs.
This phase will cost $12,000, and it is critical for both safety and continued restoration.

Once the steps are completed, we will move forward with siding and window restoration, bringing us even closer to preserving this landmark for future generations.

💛 Please consider supporting this project by donating or sharing this post. Every contribution helps us protect an important piece of our community’s history.

“The past is not the property of historians; it is a public possession. It belongs to anyone who is aware of it, and it grows by being shared. It sustains the whole society, which always needs the identity that only the past can give.”
— David Lowenthal

Buildings like this aren’t just wood and nails — they’re memory keepers.
They’ve heard laughter, arguments, music, footsteps, and silence.
When we share their stories, we keep more than history alive — we keep identity alive.

🤍 Help us restore the Indian Trails Building.
By supporting its preservation, you’re protecting a shared piece of our community’s story — not just for today, but for generations yet to come.
