The Cats season came to a close last Friday night. Crenshaw Christian bested the Cats in the First Round of AISA playoffs. It has been a great experience for myself personally to be able to video and bring Wilcox Academy football into homes of all fans of the Cats and Also the homes of fans of the teams they played. I believe it was 2008 when I got involved in videoing the games with Don, which started The Don and Stan Show. It just went from there, Don and I rode many miles together following the Wilcats where ever they played. Mike Burklow joined us for a couple of years and coined "another nice one!". Boy we had fun, I missed one game due to a migrane headache and ironically it was Crenshaw Christian. I was so out of it i sent Don and Mike over there without the internet router, so it was a bust completely my fault. Don was the King of DSPN (we didn't know what the P stood for) and had the uncanny ability to talk the game call the game and add color to each and every game as they were all different. We set up where ever we could, on the back of pickup trucks, on the sideline, endzone just where ever we could fit in. Absoulute good times and memories. We always tried to bring the best, even when it wasn't the best game. Don and Mike retired 2 years ago and Gee Alford stepped in thankfully. Gee the Whiz has carried the Broadcast for 3 years, and done an outstanding job carrying on the tradition of telling it like it is and the way it should be. Gee brought facts, stats, trivia questions, and professionalism to the broadcast. Gee and I traveled many miles together as well, solved many problems of the world, erased many losses with what we shoulda done to win. So the whole irony to this story is, last friday night I got payback, the only video cable I had malfunctioned, and there wasn't a replacement for miles. Luckily, Apple make an awesome product and i was able to get Gee on the air. It was sloppy but it worked. My thorn is Crenshaw. Then on Sat I get an Inbox from the Principal from Crenshaw Christian telling me we broadcast the game with out permission or paying the fee. So to add misery to my already misery, naturally we will pay what ever they require with deepest apologies. I guess we have been doing broadcast for so long, even the playoffs, with the hosting school waving the fees for us to broadcast for so many years, because we allow everyone to watch for free, I assumed we were all good. Well apparently it was not ok. I guess we will figure that out. Anyway, I have personally enjoyed the many many games Wilcox Live has brought to all of the Cat fans out there, worldwide, i might add. All of the kind words of support everyone has given us over the years, all of the businesses and individuals that has supported the broadcast for years and years. It is an adventure i will never forget. Gee and I have decided that it is time to pass the mic and Camera over to someone else in hopes they will bring it to you live as Wilcox Live and The Don and Stan Show has done for 14 years. I will be turning in the equipment to the School soon and hoping someone will seriously take the program over and continue the tradition. So for Myself, Gee, Don and Mike......GO CATS!!
