Cross Street Partners, in partnership with the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC), will repurpose the historic Phillips Packing Company, Factory F ("The Cannery") in Cambridge, MD as a center for local food/beverage production, food business incubation, non-profit groups and entrepreneurs. The project will include a broadly defined array of food related uses that acknowledge and support local h

unger and nutrition needs, while at the same time building off of the Eastern Shore's terrific farming/seafood resources and a growing local food economy of growers, makers, distributors, retailers, restaurants and marketers. Redeveloping this historically significant building in a manner that celebrates its unique heritage helps preserve the legacy of the Phillips Packing Company in Cambridge. The Cannery is a 60,600 square foot vacant warehouse building in a neglected industrial section of Cambridge. It is the last remaining factory from the Phillips Company's empire of vegetable and food packing businesses which employed ~10,000 people in Cambridge at its peak in 1937 and was responsible for supplying all of the K and C rations to US troops during World War II. The company closed in the 1960's, and the building has been deteriorating for decades. Five years ago, the ESLC Center for Towns named Cambridge a priority town, and since then they have been working on a variety of projects there to support development within the urban boundary and relieve development pressure on the surrounding agricultural lands.

🔧🧠 Calling all curious kids, builders, tinkerers, and future engineers!

The next session of Parts-N-Pieces Workshops is coming to The Packing House — and this hands-on STEM experience is anything but ordinary.

Led by local problem-solver and master tinkerer Michael Garner, students ages 10–15 will take apart real machines, explore how things work, strengthen critical thinking skills, and learn through observation, teamwork, and creativity.

This isn’t just “learning about STEM”…
It’s getting your hands dirty, asking questions, solving problems, and discovering how things fit together in the real world. 🔍⚙️

Got a curious kid who loves to figure out how things work? This is for them.

We’re excited to welcome the Parts-N-Pieces hands-on STEM experience designed for students ages 10–15 that flips learning on its head (in the best way possible 😉).

This isn’t memorizing facts…
👉 It’s about taking things apart to truly understand them.

Through the thoughtful deconstruction of familiar machines, students will:
🔹 Build critical thinking skills
🔹 Strengthen dexterity and hands-on confidence
🔹 Learn teamwork and real-world problem solving

Because sometimes the best way to understand the big picture… is to break it down piece by piece.
