Small Town Snippets....Aaahhh weddings. Here we have the September 1967 wedding of Miss Julie Hanks to George Robinson, both of Deer Trail. …anyway mom’s handwriting says it was September.
My folks and I were guests at this lovely outdoor wedding, held in Julie’s parent’s yard, and I had stars in my eyes with the flowers, dresses, cake and all that went with a 1960s wedding. The local newspapers were busy with the many engagement and wedding photos of the day, and the descriptions (written by their mothers) were very regal sounding. “The blushing bride was attired in a beautiful A-line floor length gown made of dazzling white satin with an overlay of lace and matching satin ribbon …” Her veil, and even shoes would be described at great length, as would her Maid of Honor and Bridesmaid’s dresses. Mother of the bride, too, had a long description of what she wore.
Not so with the groom and his entourage. The cake, and mints got more attention!
Readers always looked forward to the glowing reports on our new local Mrs. ladies.
While I’m on the wedding story, May Farms is having its bi-annual Wedding Showcase on Saturday, October 17 from 1-5 pm. Come over and see some of the beautiful wedding options we have (tell your newly engaged friends about it). Hope to see you there! Don’t worry. We won’t decorate your car while you’re here 😂.
