Black Mountain Ultra Traverse

Today was supposed to be the 5th annual Black Mountain Ultra Traverse but Mother Nature had other plans. Parts of Western North Carolina have been devastated. There is always good in every bad though. Along with being the race director, I'm also a Search and Rescue volunteer. Coincidentally my work today was air operations which included welfare checks along with taking supplies such as oxygen and insulin via helicopter to the areas that have been directly affected by the hurricane. Many of these stops were within just a few miles of the race that are still non-accessible by vehicle. While it's a bummer that the race didn't go on, far greater things happened in this community today that I was able to witness firsthand.

Congrats to Paul Tilley on his overall 1st Place finish at the Black Mountain Ultra Traverse with a time of 11:42!!! This was also Paul’s FOURTH consecutive finish!

We are still just a few volunteers short for Saturdays Black Mountain Ultra Traverse. We have shifts available at the start/finish line, Mt. Mitchell summit, and Bowlens Creek turnaround. All easy positions checking in and checking out runners at each location. Aside from helping many runners complete their goal of finishing such a demanding race, all volunteers receive a free entry into any of our races.
