In January, a small group of river fans dreamed up an event to celebrate what we felt was an overlooked aspect of our river town’s culture—the boating community. Folks who are laid-back, a little irreverent, with an affinity for boats, Busch Light, catfish, conservation, and sandbars. This isn’t just a high-decibel drunkfest. We’re tying downtown to the river, raising funds for conservation and re
creation, and investing in riverfront improvements. We’ve teamed up with Burlington Riverfront Entertainment and local nonprofit organizations. It all takes place June 12-14. The band Saliva is our Saturday night headliner, because nobody plays Taylor Swift on the sandbar. Other acts include Jive Radio, Jake Clayton, and Fivefold. Did I mention those are free shows? Instead of tickets, we’ll sell buy-if-you-want $40 all-access passes, which double as giveaway entries (grand prize: a boat!) and punch cards for River Days Olympics—think casting contests, decoy tossing, archery, and BB gun stations. The pass also gets you free drinks, VIP perks, and discounts at local businesses. Will it be the trainwreck the internet trolls will predict? But it won’t be Coachella either. Want to find out what it will be? Come down and see. Follow us as we pull it all together at www.BurlingtonRiverDays.com or on the social channels: .
