October in Vermont: you sit in traffic on Route 100 for forty minutes to look at a hillside you’ll drive past all November without a second glance. Then you get to the farm stand and the c***r donuts are sold out.

This week’s issue (live now!) makes a case for visiting your favorite local restaurants during stick season, and also takes a stand on the best pizza in America that won’t go over well in New York.

Early autumn in Vermont: 72 degrees when you leave for dinner, 48 when the check comes. Sunglasses at happy hour, sweaters by dinner, and somewhere around dessert, wondering why on earth you chose to sit outside.

This week’s issue raises a glass to the servers still working the patios, and asks you to help us settle a Halloween question we couldn’t answer on our own.

Fall arrives “officially” on Tuesday, and we’re doing everything possible to squeeze one more weekend out of summer before it does.

Issue No. 40 is live and includes an unexpected stop at a Williston breakfast spot with a menu that goes way beyond eggs and toast…a walkthrough of Shelburne Farms’ cheddar-making with the woman who runs it…and the case for finally giving sweet w**e a real shot.

Then check the calendar…Cheese Week is wrapping up right as Oktoberfest season kicks into gear, and there’s a ton of food and drink fun to fit in.

Great food…new people...one table.

The Champlain Dinner Club is a different way to go out to dinner…and meet a few people you wouldn’t have met otherwise.

Sign up, answer a few questions, and we’ll put together a table of guests we think will make for a great evening. You won’t know exactly who you’re dining with—or where you’re going—until the morning of the dinner.

Then, you just show up.

We choose the restaurant…we make the introductions...you settle in over good food, good drinks, and conversation with five people who were strangers when the night began.

Come on your own, or bring a friend or partner. Either way, the idea is simple: a really good dinner is even better when you’re meeting fun new people along the way.

Who’s joining us for the next Champlain Dinner Club? 👀

Wednesday, September 23, in Waterbury.

Today marks 20 years of marriage for Mike and me. It's also about 16 years of running a business together, which mostly means 16 years of him pitching big ideas and me asking how we're going to pay for them.

Mike's the visionary. He's the one chasing the next collaboration, the coolest seminar, or the new way to make things bigger. I'm the one asking whether we have the budget for it. Somewhere along the way, we figured out how to stay in our lanes…he works the food and w**e relationships, I run the financials and the details that keep the wheels on. Twenty years later, that division of labor is still the reason any of this actually happens.

He's also the reason I can usually pick up on the difference between a decent bottle and the ten-year-old White Zinfandel someone left in my rack before I met him.

Twenty years in, we still love each other (most of the time…maybe not the week of the festival), and I still can't believe I get to do this with my best friend.

These two photos span a good part of the duration…the first shows us, soaked in the rain, at one of our first festivals in Waterfront Park, and the other is from this year.

I like to think we’ve come a long way. ❤️❤️❤️

Issue No. 24 of The Tasting Room is out today, and there’s a lot going on.

This week: the has been on Center Street so long that Burlington sometimes forgets to appreciate it. We went on a whim recently and were reminded fast that a place doesn’t stay open that long by accident.

In Tastemakers this week: , who bought Vermont’s largest craft b**r, w**e, and spirits shop from her parents in 2003 and is celebrating 40 years at the this year. She’ll also tell you about the customer request she still can’t think about without making a face.

And **eguymike from **emerchants makes the case for w**e at your next barbecue…it’s a strong one.

Plus a packed “What’s On” calendar for the next two weeks. Link in bio…subscribe today!

Sunday at 6:30 p.m. is your last chance to join us for the second Champlain Dinner Club…and this one is going to be really good!

On Tuesday night, 61 (and counting) local food lovers are heading out to Winooski and the Old North End. You won’t know exactly where you’re going until Tuesday morning. And you won’t know who you’re sitting with until you get there. That’s kind of the point.

For your $15.95 reservation fee, you’re matched with a table of strangers who love good food as much as you do. Dinner and drinks are on you. The conversation, the connections, and the evening you’re bound to remember…that’s on us!

The deadline to register is Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Visit the in bio to sign up.
