The Cody Lawrence Memorial Calf Roping and
Ladies Breakaway is an event held the Friday after Thanksgiving to raise scholarship funds to Benefit
our Youth in the Sport of Rodeo and to Honor a Life Well-Lived. He was a state and national qualifier at the Junior High and High School Rodeo level. He served as an officer, director, Bloomer Trailers Rodeo Team Member, and a Wrangler All Star. After hi
gh school, he competed at the college level and held his professional cards in the CPRA and the PRCA focusing his skills on Calf Roping. In 2019, several THSRA Parents and friends established The Cody Lawrence Memorial Scholarship Fund, and a group of close friends began the first Memorial Calf Roping. Since that time, we have added an Open and numbered Calf Roping and a Ladies Open Breakaway Roping drawing some of the finest Open and NFR contestants and many THSRA alumni and current contestants. In Year 2 and 3, a Silent Auction and Raffle were added to raise funds to continue the Region 8 scholarships and expand them to the Texas Youth Rodeo Association and other youth rodeo prizes. By August 2024, the Cody Lawrence Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded 40 Senior Scholarships and numerous rodeo prizes. With the friendship and generosity of Trey Martin and Yancy James of Tejas Rodeo in Bulverde, Texas, we look forward to continuing The Cody Lawrence Memorial Roping as an annual event the Friday before Thanksgiving to support our Youth in the Sport of Rodeo and to Honor a Life Well-Lived. Please come to rope, or watch a great roping, visit and see old friends or make new ones, and raise money to help us to PAY IT FORWARD! As our dear friend, Hailey Kinsel, first said, "Cody is dearly missed by All of us, but he's at the Biggest Roping of all.....riding the Best Horse!"
