Endlessly grateful to the Kleinhans Family for their vision, love of Buffalo and support of the arts!

On this day in 1934, Mary Kleinhans passed. Just months earlier, she and her husband Edward had set in motion a plan to leave their estate to the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo with a clear purpose. They wanted to create a music hall for the people of Buffalo. With community leadership and support, that vision became Kleinhans Music Hall, which opened later that year.

Their legacy continues to shape the cultural life of the city today. Edward and Mary passed within months of each other, and rest eternally in Section 27.

We’re thrilled to announce the 2026/27 National Geographic Live season—three unforgettable evenings featuring extraordinary explorers and stories from across the globe.

🦁 First up, on February 2, 2027, we have African Savanna Exposed:

From hyenas to meerkats, discover the surprising lives of animals that roam the iconic African savanna, and then visit a menagerie of life at a watering hole — all through Jen Guyton's fantastic photography.

🏴 On March 16, we head underwater with A Pirate's Life:

With archaeologist Lisa Briggs we’ll hunt for some of history’s greatest treasures, meet the biggest names of the Golden Age of Piracy, and end with the most famous renegade – Blackbeard.

🐸 Rounding out the season on April 20 we explore the Weird World of Frogs:

From poison defenses to tremendous leaps, frogs have some of the most remarkable abilities on the planet, and we’ll meet a handful of froggy friends with conservation biologist Jonathan Kolby.
