Know a bikepacker who thinks hammocks sound great... until they remember they sometimes camp where there isn't a tree in sight? 🚲🌲

Fair point.

Hammocks aren't the answer for every campsite. Sometimes the perfect bikepacking route runs through wide-open country, high desert, farmland, or somewhere else where two suitable trees are about as common as a flat tire that fixes itself.

But here's the thing: you don't have to choose sides.

A hammock can be another tool in your bikepacking kit. Use it when the route gives you the opportunity, and use your ground shelter when it doesn't.

Our Hands-On classes gave guests the chance to learn a new skill, build a useful piece of gear, and head home with a finished project.

Learn the knots every hammock camper should know, and take home your own cordage to keep practicing.

🔥 Pot Cozy Making
Build a custom-fitted pot cozy for your cook pot. Measure it, make it, and take it home ready for your next trail meal.

Learn the technique and create your own paracord bracelet to wear or take along on your adventures.

🔗 Amsteel Splicing
Learn how to splice Amsteel and make a continuous loop for your hammock. A genuinely useful skill that can come in handy around camp.

Each class is one hour long, offered multiple times during the event, and you leave with a finished project or something useful to keep practicing with.

Know a bikepacker who has mastered the art of carrying more adventure in less space? 🚲

Bikepackers know that every inch of pannier space matters. Every piece of gear has to earn its place.

So why not rethink the biggest piece of gear you carry every night: your shelter and sleep systems?

A camping hammock can pack down incredibly small, get you off the hard and uneven ground, and give your tired body a comfortable place to recover after a long day in the saddle.

No tent poles. No sleeping pad. No searching for that elusive perfectly flat patch of ground.

Just find two good trees, hang your bed, and settle in.

If you know a bikepacker who loves finding ways to go lighter, pack smaller, ride farther, and sleep better, invite them to HangCon.

🚗 ✈️ 🚂 🚌 Getting to HangCon: You’ve Got Options!

Thinking about coming to HangCon in Brooksville, Florida, but not thrilled about driving the whole way? Good news: there are plenty of ways to get yourself and your hammock to the party! 🌴🏕️

✈️ FLYING IN?

The closest major airport is Tampa International Airport (TPA), about 50 miles from Brooksville. It’s probably the easiest option for most travelers, with lots of flights and rental-car choices.

But don’t stop there! Also check:

🛫 St. Pete-Clearwater International (PIE), about 60 miles away
🛫 Orlando International (MCO), about 90 miles away
🛫 Orlando Sanford (SFB), a little farther, but sometimes the airfare can make the extra drive worthwhile.

🚂 COMING BY TRAIN?

Yep, you can do that too!

Amtrak serves stations in the Tampa/Lakeland/Winter Haven area, giving you another way to make the journey without putting hundreds of miles on your vehicle. From there, you'll need a rental car or rideshare for the final leg to Brooksville.

🚌 BUS IT!

Hernando County has local bus service through TheBus, and there are intercity bus options serving the Tampa Bay area. It takes a little more planning than hopping in your car, but it can be a great option for travelers who don't want to drive.

🚙 RIDESHARE

Uber is available in Brooksville, so if you're flying or taking the train and don't want to rent a car, rideshare may be an option for getting the rest of the way. Just keep in mind that Brooksville is a smaller community, so planning ahead or reserving your ride is a good idea.

👋 AND THEN THERE'S THE HAMMOCK COMMUNITY...

Coming from out of town? Post in the HangCon Hangout Facebook group and see who else is coming from your area. You might find a fellow hanger with an empty seat!

Because getting to HangCon shouldn't be the hard part.

The hard part is deciding which hammock you're going to sleep in once you get here. 😴🌴
