Well it kinda happened this way. I rented a former bar restaurant the “El Sombrero Rojo”, met Risa this was about 1981. Risa was a poet and artist and I was a musician. We had this great space with 20 foot ceilings and approximately 100’ x 30’. One day Risa said let’s make into a Salon like they had in Paris where creative people could get together. So I ended up buying 75 folding chairs created a lighting system bought a PA and the Park Slope Salon was born. It lasted for about 5 years. We served free wine charged 1 dollar admission and opened only on Monday. It became a big hit in the neighborhood. We even got an interview on Live at Five and were written up in 2 newspapers. But as things would go the owner sold the building we broke up and it all came to an end!

The park slope salon was in existence from 1981 to 1990. It was formerly known as the El Sombreo Rojo. It was closed down for many years because it was known as a house of ill repute. I met Risa in 1981 after answering an add looking for musicians in the Village Voice. We started dating. At the time I was living in Bensonhurst and was actively looking for a place to live. Risa also a poet talked about opening up a space where poets could get together and share a stage. I found the El Sombrero Rojo and we moved in in 1981. Risa named it the "Park Slope Salon". Huggy Bear if you are still around we would love to hear from you.
