Brooklyn — this Friday.

25 artists created original theater, spoken word, live music, and dance inspired by Malcolm X and Lorraine Hansberry.

Not revivals.
Not history class.
New work. Live in the room.

Some of these pieces are raw. Some funny. Some musical. Some confrontational. All rooted in the words, ideas, and spirit of Malcolm and Lorraine.

If you’ve been craving art that actually has something to say right now — pull up.

Bed-Stuy Art House began on Lewis Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant—where for three years it served as a home for artists and community to gather, create, and be seen.

Through theater, music, poetry, and visual art, the space became known for bold work, cultural pride, and genuine connection.

Though the original space has closed, the mission has only elevated.

Now, Bed-Stuy Art House continues as a producing platform—partnering with legacy institutions like Billie Holiday Theatre and visionary artists to bring new work to life.

Someone asked why it took so much energy to post these photos—months after the show.

The real answer?

When Life After Death was being produced at , an old version of me was dying. And by the time the show ended, I hadn’t quite started living again.

I pushed this production forward the best way I knew how—digging deep to believe, not taking everything too personally, listening for whatever love showed up...

This show was about walking through fear.
Letting an old self die so a new life could begin.
Breaking the loops living in survival mode locks us into.

In writing this play, I wrote spells that changed my life.

I felt BIG’s spirit so strongly I stopped calling him Biggie and started calling him Chris. Some days I’d say, “We’re gonna keep going, Chris. I got you.”

And we did.

To independent artists: Just take 1 different step forward and see what happens.

To Robbie, Najee, Travis, DBlack, Bianca, Xavier & Alphonso: thank you for elevating the work and teaching me what it was about.

To Black men—and those who love all types of us: this play was for our magic.

📸 Thank you, Alex for your beautiful pics and documenting the show. My bad posting them took so long. I was stepping into a life after death.

May the world see this play again soon.
