Today the 17th of October 1977 is the
49th Anniversary of Street Survivor's
Lynyrd Skynyrd fifth studio album.

Street Survivors is the fifth studio album by legendary Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, released on October 17, 1977.

It stands as one of the most celebrated yet tragic milestones in rock history. Just three days after its release, on October 20, 1977, the band's chartered airplane crashed in Gillsburg, Mississippi en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The crash claimed the lives of frontman Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, the assistant road manager, and both pilots, leaving the remaining band members severely injured.

The original album cover featured a photograph of the band members standing on a city street, seemingly engulfed in flames.

Following the horrific plane crash, the fiery imagery took on a haunting, prophetic context. Out of respect for the deceased and their families, MCA Records recalled the original sleeve and replaced it with an alternative photo of the band set against a plain black background. Decades later, the original "flames" cover was restored for
deluxe CD and vinyl reissues
