Today, Best of the West recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Montana is home to 12 Tribal Nations, seven Native American reservations, and the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana. Each has a distinct history, culture, and identity that has and continues to shape our state.
The land where we gather to compete, connect, and play the sport we love carries a history that extends far beyond today. We recognize the Indigenous peoples who have called these lands home for generations and the enduring connections between their cultures, communities, and the land.
As a volleyball community, we are grateful for the opportunity to gather and play here. We believe in being good stewards of the places where we live, work, and play, and in respecting the history and people that continue to shape Montana.
Today, and every day, we honor Indigenous peoples and recognize their lasting contributions to our state.
