We are elated to share that even through this year’s format, the Crush Cancer Virtual Challenge raised over $12,000 to support Mecklenburg County Cancer Association - Virginia.

A cancer diagnosis comes with layers of impact, and the financial burden is just one of those layers. This funding will help local individuals facing cancer to cover the costs of everyday living expenses such as groceries, mortgage or rent payments, utilities, gas to and from treatments, and more.

Each year we have watched in awe as this fundraiser has grown into a beautiful community of friends and family coming together to support so many who are navigating a cancer diagnosis and treatments.

This year the mission of the Crush Cancer 5K has taken on an even deeper meaning for us. Cancer has touched several of our own family and friends whom we love and cherish more than words can express. It’s incredible to see the level of support that comes from a small-town business with a big heart, like Castle's Butcher Shop. When given the opportunity to sponsor at a reduced rate for this year’s virtual format, Frances Castle didn’t hesitate—she simply said, “I want to give the same amount as last year.”

Many who join or sponsor the Crush Cancer Challenge do so because cancer has touched their lives personally. Frances, who lost her brother to cancer, is one of those dedicated supporters.

We're incredibly grateful for the support of presenting sponsors like United Country Virginia Realty. Bill and Melba Baker have been our presenting sponsor from the beginning of this event in 2021, and even though this year's event took a virtual format, they didn't hesitate to commit their support again. On race day, Bill Baker shows up early with a giant cooler full of waters to keep runners hydrated, not as part of any sponsorship perk, just because they're thoughtful people with a big cooler. "We are so glad to support this event and ask everyone to please help support the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association - Virginia," says Melba.

🎀 It’s Wear Pink Week! 🎀

We’re turning the week pink (Oct. 19–25) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month — because every mile, every message, and every shade of pink helps spread awareness and hope. 💗

As you log your miles in the Crush Cancer Virtual Challenge, remember:
✨ Know your body. Pay attention to any new lumps, pain, swelling, or skin changes like dimpling or redness — and talk to your doctor if something feels off.
🩺 Get regular screenings. Schedule routine checkups and mammograms based on your doctor’s guidance. Early detection saves lives!
💪 Live healthy. Limit alcohol, eat well, stay active, and skip the smoke — small steps make a big difference.

This week, wear pink proudly to honor survivors, support fighters, and remember those we’ve lost. Let’s fill the feed with hope, heart, and a whole lot of pink power! 💕
