To the amazing past participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers of the Crush Cancer 5K:
After much thought, I’ve decided not to organize the Crush Cancer 5K this year. While I’m doing very well physically following last year’s breast cancer diagnosis, I’ve learned that the invisible effects of cancer can linger long after ringing the bells to signal the end of treatment.
Because of your incredible generosity over the years, the Crush Cancer 5K helped ease some of the financial burden for local individuals and families facing cancer. I will always be grateful for the difference you helped make.
When I started the race in 2021, my goal was to honor my mom and carry forward her spirit of helping others. Your support has meant more to me than I can put into words, and I hope you know how much it has meant to the many people and families you’ve helped along the way.
Although I won’t be organizing the Crush Cancer 5K this year, I’m excited to share that a separate local event has been created and is supporting the same cause. The Boydton Day Boo Bash 5K Run/Walk and Costume Contest will be held October 31 at 8 a.m. as part of the 50th Annual Boydton Day. Registration is just $20, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association - Virginia.
