11/04/2023
All,
On behalf of Phase Cycling and Sportif Coaching Group, thank you for registering for the 2023 edition of South Germantown CX,
Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers we think we have another great event for you this year.
Here are some race day event details and instructions:
Zeroth, remember daylight savings time ends on Sunday so turn back those clocks an hour!
First, NUMBERS ON YOUR LEFT
Second, the race start will be similar to 2022's with staging inside the race village. There are signs guiding the way to staging.
There is a course crossing to get to staging, registration, the podiums, food etc. Please use caution when using that crossing!
Third, we welcome everyone to use the pump track and jump lines throughout the day but please do not walk up the face of any of the track features while wearing cleats. Doing so damages the track. Additionally, if at any point during the day those venue features get muddy we may temporarily close them and ask that you observe any announced closures to avoid track damage.
Fourth, as always there is a lot of other activity in other parts of the park this weekend including a full slate of soccer games so please allow for an extra few minutes of travel time.
!!LOCATION!!
The best address to use is 18045 Central Park Cir, Boyds, MD 20847.
After leaving the traffic circle and entering the park, turn left onto Central Park Circle and proceed clockwise around Central Park Circle. Proceed until you see a ‘Bike Park’ sign a little less than ½ way around the park.
PARKING
Parking is in the field adjacent to the race course. Please follow directions of our staff members as you proceed up the path towards the parking.
DO NOT RIDE BACKWARDS ON THE COURSE!!!!
Just don’t do it. Even between races. Even while heading to staging for your race. It is dangerous, I'll yell at you and the officials will DQ you.
WARM-UPS AND COURSE PREVIEWS
The course will be open for preview at 7:30am and between races at the discretion of the officials.
Please follow any instructions you receive from the officials and the announcer about course previews. No warming up on course while races are in progress. Doing so will result in you being disqualified from your race.
For course previews, enter the course at the course crossing after the finish line (look for the lower power pylon.) After racing has started for the day this is the only place on course you should be entering for a course preview.
Do not pass any active racers while conducting your course preview or you will be DQ’d from your race.
STAGING
All racers should report to staging 10 minutes before their scheduled start time (15 minutes for the 9:15 Junior races.) Please follow the signs to the staging area, be aware of racers from the previous race who are finishing up and DO NOT under any circumstances ride backwards on the course to reach staging.
PITS
The double pits are a bit past the finish line.
Please use the course crossing in the middle of the power line pylon get to the pits. Use caution when crossing the course to access the pit and please remove your equipment from the pit immediately following your race.
THE WOODS
Yup, they are back again this year. And we've made just a very slight change to them....
Lil' BELGIANS COURSE
This year the Lil Belgians course is located next to plywood pump track and race staging. The course is open for the kiddos to pre-ride at any time prior to the start of the Lil’ Belgians Race.
The entrance to the Lil Belgians course is right by the big pile of dirt!
FOOD AND DRINK
Chesapeake Coffee Roasters onsite for hot beverages while Namit Filipino BBQ will be taking care of your race day nourishment (preview Namit's menu at: https://www.clover.com/online-ordering/namit)
Alcohol is not allowed in the park.
PETS
Pets on leashes are fine but please keep in mind that pets are not allowed in the soccerplex portion of the park.
REGISTRATION
Registration is located in the picnic shelter to the south of the jump line and pump track. Use caution if you cross a jump line to get there or better yet walk around the right side of the pump track (next to staging) to the shelter.
There's still plenty of day of registration spots available and we should be able to take credit cards on site.
Registration should be open by 7:15 am and closes 15 minutes before the start of your race.
