Hey, everyone. I hope you had a great summer!

Some news… as part of the 2023 festival planning efforts, all of the social media accounts for the festival are being transferred to another committee member to continue growing social media presence and keep you up-to-date on all that’s going on.

I just wanted to leave a quick note to say that I’ve had a lot of fun interacting with you all over the past year and I very much appreciate all of your support for fiber arts and agriculture in Central New York!

It’s a pretty small world out there, so I’m sure I’ll see you around. In the meantime, I wish you a very happy sweater season!

Hey, friends - we took two weeks off but we’re back at it and already preparing for the 2023 festival!

It is our goal to continuously work toward a more inclusive, educational, comprehensive, and enjoyable event for everyone. Over the next few days, we’ll be putting a series of polls and questions in our stories to gather feedback from YOU about your ‘22 festival experience. We’re looking to find out ways we might be able to enhance your experience in the future. If you’d like to provide extended description related to any thoughts/comments/suggestions you may have, please feel free to send us a message!

In the meantime, we thought you might enjoy this lovely image from Cornell Sheep Program] of sheep and solar arrays working in parallel to better the planet!

and and I all independently knit the - using different yarns, sometimes making modifications - and when we realized we all had the same sweater we were so excited to match for the CNY Fiber Festival! 🧶 At the festival I loved getting local yarn from and , fiber from and and beautiful batts from Spinner’s Hill! It was so fun to meet and talk to hand spinners from different spinning groups and visit the amazing ! See you next year ✌️
More on the pattern: it’s the Misurina Tee by - so fun to knit with lace, cables, and colorwork! For my tee I added contrast color twisted rib on the cuffs and hem to give it a more fitted look. From left to right, the yarns we used are:

Come watch Cherry Valley Country Spinners & Fiber Artists, Golden Fleece Spinners’ Society, Spiral Spinners, and Lamb to Loom this weekend. You’ll get to see them spin wool and other fibers on drop spindles and spinning wheels; and prepare fiber to spin by carding, combing and blending. It’s a great way to learn more about the process and ask any questions you may have. You can even try your hand at using a drop spindle or spinning on a wheel at the Wheel Corral!

The children’s tent will have fun activities for all ages. Volunteers will be instructing children on the basics of wet felting, needle felting, crochet, and more. All activities and supplies are free.

We also encourage children to adventure around the festival grounds with their parents/guardians and participate in the new Explorer's Pass. Youngsters may pick up a pass at the front gate or in the children's tent and use it to find eight Explorer Pass stations scattered throughout the tents. At each station, children will find a question and answer related to the booth they are visiting. When they have found the answer, they can punch a hole in their passes, and when they have collected at least six hole punches, they may claim a small prize in the children's tent. It will introduce children to some basic farming and fiber art concepts and give them the chance to meet a few friendly animals along the way!

Remember to share your experience with us by tagging and including the official hashtag in all of your festival posts. See you soon!

Today’s featured vendor is Liberty Ridge Farm and Gardens!

Sunny and Tom Bixby bought their Central New York farm in 1974 and their first Romney ewe in ‘75. Sunny is a 5th generation shepherd raising Romney sheep with genetics going back to her mother’s flock. They started their Romney breeding program in ‘77 and continue to breed today.

Sunny spoke at the World Congress on Colored Sheep in New Zealand in ‘85 and taught spinning and fiber management for womens economic status in Nepal in ‘97 (with her precocious side kick Sue). Sunny is also formally trained in fleece judging and has taught the skill internationally.

In addition to their sheep flock, they run a custom carding business with a vintage 1923 Davis & Furber carding machine and have been breeding ABCA and AKC Border Collies for over 30 years.

They carry a large variety of yarn, fiber, equipment, tools, and accessories for spinning, knitting, crocheting, and weaving. They are the first US based distributor of Ashford wheels and looms and will have a selection of equipment on hand! They also offer classes and lessons at their on-farm yarn shop. Be sure to check out their booth this weekend to find all kinds of treasures!
