The Skinautiques, French for nautical skiers and pronounced Skee-now-teeks, became a water ski club in 1959 and incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1961. Membership to Club de Skinautique is open to anyone with a love of water skiing. \ The membership is made up of both American and Canadian citizens. The club practices every Friday evening and Saturday morning at Skinautique Hill from Mem
orial Day to the last show in August. The first water show was put on at the request of Lake Metigoshe Improvement Association and was to be entertainment for their annual meeting. The annual meeting was attended by only a few people, but there were several hundred on the near by hillside waiting for the skiing demonstration. Since that beginning the L.M.I.A. bought property, commonly referred to as Skinautique Hill, which the ski club utilizes in return for payment of taxes and utilities and upkeep of the hill. The club owns two tournament model “Hydrodyne” 20’ ski boats rigged with Mercury motors along with considerable other water ski equipment. Club de Skinautique performs four to five full ski shows each season. Their traditional Fourth of July show provides a reason for many families to gather at Lake Metigoshe. They also put on a second show in August which is the skiers favorite show because we get a chance to show you the acts we’ve been working on all summer. The club enjoys traveling and performs two to three shows a year from Canada to South Dakota. In addition, the Skinautiques are called upon to put on skiing demonstrations, mini shows, for special functions at Lake Metigoshe. The water ski club’s lake home is located in the beautiful Turtle Mountains of north central North Dakota. The lake is a natural lake sitting on the United States-Canadian boundary with approximately 1,000 summer homes. The lake provides people in the United States and Canada with year-round recreation including fishing, boating, snow skiing, snowmobiling, and of course, water skiing.
