Started in 2008 the SBC Zombie Walk began as a means to raise awareness of global hunger issues as well as collecting nonperishable goods for the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana in Shreveport. The Zombie Walk has grown exponentially each year by leaps and bounds, now part of the Bossier Arts Council's yearly line-up of events in the East Bank District and bringing in hundreds of tons of food for
the local charity. The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is the largest distributor of donated food for our 7 parish area and they are one of only five food banks in the state. They sort, warehouse and distribute food to over 120 non-profit organizations, shelters and churches in our seven-parish region, which includes Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Claiborne, Desoto, Red River, and Webster. Some agencies prepare and serve meals to the hungry like Christian Services and Salvation Army. Many others are shelters such as Providence House, Oakwood Home for Women and the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, providing refuge for people who require short or long term assistance. Still, other groups distribute food to the elderly, many of whom are home-bound or chronically ill. www.foodbanknla.org
This event takes place in October and gives attendees a fun, unique experience involving the spirit of community involvement and the pop culture phenomenon known as the “walking dead” - aka zombies. This family-friendly event charges no admission, and only asks that attendees come dressed in their finest zombie garb, bearing donations of non-perishable food items & maybe a few bucks to donate to the charities or organizations of their choice. There will be activities, raffles, contests, vendors, artists, and lots of weird & wonderful people having a great time for great causes! Follow our page for updates and more information!
