Hi everyone!
I’m part of a local service group, Kiwanis of Boonville, that works to support kids and families in our community. I shared our idea for an April community service project with them and they generously approved $400 to help fund it!
Our plan is to have the kids assemble taco meal kits that will be given to local families in need. I’ll bring brown paper bags and the food items, and the kids will move down a line adding one item to each bag. At the end, they’ll write a short note or draw a picture to include so the families receiving the meals know someone was thinking of them.
The goal is not only to help provide a practical meal, but also to give the kids a hands-on lesson in community service showing them that even small acts like packing a meal, writing a kind message, or working together can make a real difference for someone else. It’s a great opportunity to talk with them about caring for our neighbors and being part of a community that helps each other.
Right now the bags will include:
• Canned chicken
• Taco seasoning
• Salsa
• Beans
• Tortillas
• Rice
If anyone has suggestions for another simple shelf-stable item that would help make this a complete meal, let me know!
I’m also open to ANY ideas you all have for continuing to incorporate community service into our group in the future.
Thank you all for helping make this a meaningful experience for the kids and a practical way to support families in our area. I’m excited for them to see how serving others can be both fun and impactful.
Our response from Kiwanis Club of Boonville and More to this collaboration is 😍❤️😍
