Please let us know if any of your children in Washington County Schools saw this book! How cool!! π π π
This week, March 16β20, weβre celebrating National Agriculture Literacy Week by helping students better understand where their food comes from and why agriculture is such an important part of everyday life.
The Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development has teamed up with the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF) and the Washington County Farm Bureau, along with support from Hagerstown Magazine through sales of the Grown Local magazine, to bring this yearβs book, βThe Dog Who Saved the Bees,β into local classrooms. Students are discovering the important role of pollinators, learning about agriculture, and seeing how it all connects to the food system, while also hearing directly from local farmers and agricultural professionals.
Washington County is home to dozens of farms that manage honeybee colonies, highlighting the important role beekeeping plays in our local agricultural landscape. These bees support our orchards, crops, and gardens through essential pollination.
Itβs a simple way to spark interest early and help grow the next generation of farmers, producers, agricultural professionals, and supporters right here in Washington County, MD!
